Cal Skate on VIMBY

VIMBY and Cal Skate

VIMBY has a short feature on Portland’s longest running skateshop, Cal Skate. I think I actually mail ordered one of my first real skateboards from a Cal Skate advert in the back of Thrasher back in the 80’s. I remember being perplexed finding out they were actually in Oregon instead of California. Well that mystery is explained at last. Once again, Paul Fujita is the mouthpiece of Cal. He’s hell bent on promoting local skateboard companies in every media piece he does, and once again Steve and I owe him something nice…

  1. Our fucking skateshop is a department store!!
with a coffee bar and two stories of fashion

I cant say how much I hate this shop for
not beeing an inch like the one above in portland

sad but the local skaters opend up a shop as well
    after two three weeks
it showed that they not carrying fashion
they carry tomorrows fashion that costs three times as much as in the other shop because its underground…

shit…after a year the even lost skatehardware
needless to say that they blew it

a skateshop from and for skaters with skateboards
    fuck what a hard one….

That’s killer. Paul is the shit. Cal Skate is the shit. Yee Haw!

  6. I was just in Cal Skates yesterday while I had a short layover on my train ride back from SF to Vancouver. I bought a wrist guard that I can’t find anywhere in Canada, and then ate shit getting a wheel caught in a grate beside the street car tracks, and smashed my lens up a bit.

    Bummer.

But that shop certainly did have a hell of a lot of decks.

  8. Glad to hear so many people are stoked on the segment, and the shop. The guys at Cal Skate are fucking great. I am looking to do more segments on legit shops and companies here in portland, as well as local rippers.
