The Epoxies: Stop The Future

Hey jerks! It’s the Epoxies new album Stop The Future, and not a minute too soon. The Epoxies have been on the road since the Red Sea parted and finally holed themselves up in the studio to record some long overdue new material for their new label Fat. Some fans bitched about them ditching Dirtnap, but the split appears to be amicable and Dirtnap stands to gain sales from the increased exposure. Stop The Future picks up where their self titled release leaves off, and fans will not be disappointed. Gone are some of the shorter, highly vibrating spastic songs, but the occasional yodel still remains. Roxy seems to be getting more confident in her deliveries and stretching out her vocals a little. Stop The Future seems more pop-oriented than the first release until it gets to “A Struggle Like No Other” which is frankly the most interesting song and kind of a throwback to the first record. The Epoxies might do well critically to explore more in that direction, it might get some critics off their backs (predictably, the local backlash has already started) but who knows. They gotta do what they want to ultimately. It’s clear when listening to Stop The Future that the Epoxies have been concentrating on their craft.
Stop The Future ends with a super nu-wavy balad “Toys” that lets you get your Ultravox / 16 candles groove on. Again, some critics have complained, but WTF? It’s a good song so choke on it! They might very well be the next band that gets mainstream huge that you will eventually get sick of hearing about. Roxy will end up in People magazine with her own line of fashion accessories and you’ll hear about how the band members are sick of Geffen trying to promote the band as Roxy and the Epoxies. Then they’ll come out with their hip hop crossover album… Har har. In the meantime we can only wish their bank accounts that well and keep on enjoying their fine recorded efforts. Can someone please tell me why the Epoxies still aren’t listed on the Fat web site?
