Dokument Skate Shop is having a grand reopening on May 2nd, at their new location on 2320 Commerical St. in Salem, OR. I asked Kevein Porterfield for a little eye candy to liven up this post for those of you who don’t live in the area. I’ve got three shots of two team riders, both named Gabe,plus the flyer after the jump. Guess how many stairs in that set up top and win absolutely nothing but a smug sense of satisfaction.
It looks like Buck Lasek has California Skateparks building him a big old bowl in on his property in Encinitas, California. You can check out some more pictures and video at the Vans web site. It looks… big, but I think this private bowl will have more character. Characters, if you count GVK. -Thanks to Mac for the tip.

Tom Miller sent this shot from his recent trip to Anchorage, Alaska. Props to the Samoans (non-angry) for building a skateable wall in front of their church, as the Samoan-constructed walls in PDX aren’t so skateable. Insert Sarah Palin joke here.
This is the Food Factory and Curiosity Center built by J. Mayer H Architects at the Danfoss Universe Science Park in Nordborg, Denmark. The purpose of the park is “to enthuse children and young people and promote interest in and understanding of technology and science.” They also explain “However, to be entertained you must participate actively. Because the fun really begins when you start to use your body and mind in wonderful harmony.” Yes, we all can think of at least one way to accomplish this. – Thanks to Seth Levy for the tip.

Speaking of movies, the Makaha web site says filming has almost wrapped on a project called “Makaha, The Story of the Originator.” Meanwhile, catch some vintage video of Danny and his teammates in action after the jump. I forgot who sent me this, but there’s a really good interview with Jeff Grosso on Concrete Disciples that includes lots of recent (rad) photos like the one above from MRZ. In keeping with the recent photos, the interview doesn’t rehash any of the old stories or his battles with addiction, it’s all about the present. Grosso was a friendly guy the last time he came through here.
Spohn Ranch built a miniramp for a Reeses Puffs commercial shot in a backyard of Pasadena, CA home that I have yet to see on air. Keep your eyes glued to Nickelodeon.
An unnamed Domino Records band wants to shoot a music video in an empty pool in the L.A. area. They say it will take a good day of shooting, so it sounds like it will need to be a permission pool. I told the rep that it sounded like a lazy scam to find an empty pool to skate, but he assured me it was legit. They need skaters too, and there will be some sort of compensation involved. You can contact Robert Nell if you want to hook him up. In the mean time, let’s revisit a brief (incomplete) history of skateboarding in pool like structures in music videos. In the top row there are two shots from the current running band AFS (Arthritic Foot Soldiers) that has a video shot in a wooden bowl for the song “Chicks, Beer, Fame & Money” off the album Immature Nobodies. Check out the longboard guitar. It’s an interesting application, but not nearly as well done as the one featured on the cover of the Surf Punks first album My Beach. Then of course there is the grandaddy of all bowl riding skate videos, any of Agent Orange’s segments from SkateVisions. Another time tested favorite, the Netherland’s Urban Dance Squad video for “Deeper shade of Soul.” Watch them all after the jump.

Front magazine features “Britain’s fittest girls.” The latest issue tells readers to “Put on your kneepads, take out your shiny helmet and do some serious grinding as Rosie and Hettie go skate!” Errr, yeah. Rosie and Hettie seem more interested in other activities actually. I’m going to go out on a limb and call them, ahem, posers! Yes, I am that witty! Front is a carbon copy of any one of the many young men’s hipster lifestyle pinup magazines, except that it’s more NSFW than the typical U.S. fare. – Thanks to Aaron Shims fro the tip.
