Jeff Grosso bootleg

Grosso bootleg

Can’t afford a NOS Santa Cruz ‘toybox’ by Jim Phillips? What about this ‘Grosso toy’ full of pink plastics? We had some ‘Alice Grosso’s’ in the past, but this one looks pretty accurate and you can even read ‘Jeff Grosso’ on the box. Anyone ever heard of the FAS brand before? For sale a while ago sur leboncoin.fr.

Fake Sims Kevin Staab complete

This is clearly a Kevin Staab bootleg. More than one company seems to have copied the ‘Mad Chemist’ graphic in the past. We had some here and I have seen some other fake Staabs around.  The original deck was designed by John Lucero in 1986 for Sims. Also, this fake one is made by Saturn, the same company that produced the fake Monty Nolder from December. It was also the same seller who sold this deck on eBay. This one went for £10.73 after 5 bids. Thanks to John William Davies for the tip and Chandra Ruegg for the pictures.

Matix Skateboarder Magazine Covers

Skateboards with covers from 1978 editions of Skateboarder Magazine, somehow affiliated with Matix Clothing, although they have no details on their site, besides a link to this picture. Retro is overused, but these look pretty good. Oregon locals: The next time you see Tom Inouye (board 3) let him know you saw him on the cover of skateboard magazine again. Cover image scans from Vintage Skateboard Magazines.

Boom Art and Alain Aslan pinups

Alain Aslan was a pinup artist most famous for his work in Lui magazine. He passed away earlier this month, so it’s kind of unclear how long this limited edition skateboard set from Boom-Art has been in the works, and whether or not it’s authorized. They sent me a press release earlier this week but I accidentally deleted it, and there’s still no mention on their blog. They’ve got a high percentage of women in various states of undress on their boards. Although the do claim to have the first European female pro model. Who knows if it was a response to criticism or not, but Chloé Bernard is happy. The Nash pasties here were probably unnecessary, but to be honest, they amuse me and I enjoy placing them over naughty bits. Free love version after the jump. If you want to see bigger version of the two Lui covers in the background, you must travel back to 2007 in order to travel back to 1977.

SK8FACE on Kickstarter

Sk8face has been kicking around the web for a long time. I became aware of it back in 2008. I had just sort of assumed the project had fizzled out, but they’ve been working on it steadily. Now they are turning to Kickstarter to fund post production. If you’re scratching your head, Sk8face is a video documentary on skateboard graphics. The list of interviews is impressive. They’ve posted something like 35 micro excerpts on the Sk8face web site as well, including one with our Smithsonian friend Betsy Gordon.

Sant Cruz Star Wars skateboards

These aren’t the skateboards you’re looking for

Rebelscum.com reports from the Agenda trade show that Santa Cruz is releasing some licensed Star Wars skateboards. It looks like some of them come packaged like little action figures. Santa Cruz will put out a skateboard with anything and everything on it. As weak as the idea of a Star Wars skateboard is, I really like the replica action figure packaging. That’s pretty good attention to detail. Check it out after the jump, as well as a Skate and Annoy exclusive insider pic of the limited edition, super technical slalom deck that will likely cost an arm and a leg.

Fake Kryptonics team deck

This fake Kryptonics complete is even less well known than the first Kryptonics bootleg that I posted on S&A.  I had to check AOS  to find out that the original graphic came from a 1989 team deck, called ‘Footprint’. Also, I have never seen bootlegs with this shape and coloured grip. Kryptonics started to make crappy boards near the end of the 90s (I think around ’97), but this is definitely a bootleg, since the seller confirmed that he got it when he was a kid in the 80’s. Price: £0,99 on Gumtree! Thanks to Nicola Rushent for the pictures.
