Seattle’s SeaSk8 has history, and a blog

I don’t know who is running this, but Seattle’s newest incarnation of SeaSk8 has a blog. There’s not much up there right now as it’s only been active for a handful of days. At the risk of infuriating Bobcat, go check it out. However, if you want to get on his good side, check out his rambling alcohol fueled history of SeaSk8 after the jump.

Reader DIY: The littlest ramp

I should have titled this “Well, who doesn’t?” after the shot above. Anything I would write about it wouldn’t be as clever as what Adam (last name withheld, because his coworkers spy on him) sent:

Digging the site as always. Helps out at work like you would not believe. I try to explain what I am looking at to my co workers and they are befuddled. While they eat giant lunches, I dip out for a session 2 blocks away from here: (Thanks Dan).

Anyway, I meant to send these pics a while ago. I live in Seattle and moved in with my lady friend. My new apt. has a garage that is too small for my Wagoneer, but big enough for a micro mini. Enclosed are some pics of the construction in what I refer to as my MAN CAVE, then the christmas sweater party last year that had a couple of my sk8 buddies at to woo the guests. I am the kook with the tie.

Dimensions are 32″H 6.5 W and 12.5 L. I think. It is fun as hell when you get used to it- keep the knees loose. Also, it is pretty much for winter/ rainy use only- as it gets hot as hell in there in the summer, and with the weather and ample parks around-no need. During the winter it is a life saver with sunday night football in the background and KEXPs street sounds on the radio. Great for lip tricks.

ps- I went to hood this weekend and stopped at that Hopworks brewery you have in portland on the way back. I guess I should say like that ebay watch guy and his music- this is brought to you by Hopworks Brewery “Secret Alt” blend.

New Seattle Center skatepark open

Seattle Center skate plaza open (?)

Or at least I have to assume it’s open, although judging by the photos aI got, it’s either wildly unpopular or a very well kept secret. Marek Litinsky is our man on the scene:

Hey, so I went up to Orcas this weekend. Turned out I went with bunch of kooks who saw the park and wanted to leave. I thought I was gonna pull my hair out. So, no shots from the island but at least I got couple photos from that new park in Seattle and bunch of shots from marginal way where we spent the night and skated a bit sunday morning. There you go. dont go on trips with little kids. EVER!!! it doesnt matter if they are 18 or 38. Theres even a photo of ever elusive dick cancer for those readers who would wanna see 38 year old skatepark collector.

I’m going to hold off the Marginal Way photos for another day. It’s too much for one post. I had planned on asking Bobcat to do the photo recon, but I thought better of it since I didn’t want him to suffer from a ruptured brain aneurysm if he ever set foot on the unhallowed ground. I know it’s not the same sort of terrain they tore down at the old Sea Sk8, but it looks fun to me. Maybe I’m blinded by all prettiness. Although you gotta love to hate a design that puts all the biggest tranny on the same side of the park, with nothing facing it to build up speed. That’s my armchair critique. I also don’t see the big glass pyramid that was in the original design.

Blowing out spots for Bobcat

Spot check, Seattle. John Aguilar sent these in. It’s near the Bell Street Pier in the Port of Seattle. He said the street view from Google Maps was better than his shots. You can be the judge after the jump. Looks like a rad spot.

Seattle Center skatepark under construction 1

Seattle Center Skatepark breaks ground

I was in the Seattle burbs over the weekend. I did get in a couple sessions at the Sammamish Wa skatepark, which was overrun by scooters and bladers on both occasions. That park sucks. I think I was way to generous in my first review. Still, part of the fun in that park is figuring out how to have fun at that park. One day I happened to be in the neighborhood of the the new Seattle Center skatepark (replacement for the demolished SeaSk8) so I decided to check it out. So far it’s just a flat slab of concrete, which is not what I expected at all. It makes it look like the elements are going to be prefab. But hey, I don’t know anything about skatepark building, except that the only other street plaza I saw under construction still looked like a conventional dig site. There were a couple of guys there who looked like they were painting a ledge that went around the perimeter of the park, something that doesn’t show up in the renderings. All in all, I’m confused. You can check out some not very enlightening photos after the jump, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
