A non-skating friend of mine was on vacation and took some pics of a skatepark he happened on in a small town Called San Pancho or San Francisco, depending on who you ask. It’s about 30 miles north of Puerto Vallarta. Mexico City. Some ancient and not so ancient spots, a lot of finger flips, varials, wall plants of various types, and even some freestyle. (Dave Campbell, pay attention to the 1 minute mark.) Alberto Villarreal and his team at AGENT, ended up weaving them together and covering them with resin in a homemade mold to make skateboards. This is supposed to be the Ministry of the Economy building in Mexico City. It’s kind of hard to tell from this screen capture, but those supports have transition on both sides that meet in a point. Read John Aguilar says this super tight spot used to be sessioned back in the 80’s and early 90’s before there was a fence surrounding it. You can get a sense of it if you go to Google Maps and choose the street view, escept for that damned delivery truck that’s in the way at the crucial moment. I tried doing an image search for the building but came up empty handed, at least in English.

It’s about skateboarding in Mexico, but it’s not a straight up documentary, more of a loose collection of on camera interviews and archival footage, mixed with modern footage. It’s not jut a trip down memory lane, however. There is a lot footage of those old guys (still) skating today. There’s a nice segue from that segment that ends with a 40 year old rail slider revealing a 22 year old kicking off a street segment. On top of that, friends of the site Art and Steve Godoy and John Aguilar are featured in this video which is titled simply Skater. Nice shirt John! The real burn is that this short movie is just an extrapolated version of a dandruff commercial circa 2001 or so. I thoght I posted it already but I don’t think I have. Basically, it’s a skateboarder with a flaming head raging through the streets. Pretty much the same thing, though years earlier and not as well shot or polished in post production. I’ll have to dig through my tapes when I get home and put it up. Once the visual effects turn on, all reality is thrown out the window, so even on some of the more believable sequences it’s impossible to tell what is real. What’s it for? A new product from Coca Cola called Burn Energy Drink. According to Creative Review: “The crux of our approach was to involve pre-existing communities in the creation and distribution of the key campaign assets Those sequences that are real and establishing shots were filmed in Mexico City. This just in from reader John Aguilar who is our Senior Mexico Correspondent, even though he lives in Washington now, Old Mexico City skate spot behind the Modelo Beer brewery, we always had to sweep or scoop out all the plastic bags with dried up glue inside them that the glue sniffers would leave behind… Geez. You’d think the glue sniffers could find a skunky beer keg or some other sketchy fluids dribbling out of the brewery. I guess huffing is a completely different escape from reality. Enlarge-o-rama.

I found this Mexican comic book, Los Super Juniors over at Weirdo Toys. And speaking of Mexican skateboarding, check out this video from Steven Bailey found at the Mercava Skateboards. It’s got spots from different states in Mexico, including the one where tipster John Aguilar learned to skate tranny when he was a Super Junior. It’s a super rough looking the banked ditch/half pipe thing in Mexico city behind the Corona beer brewery.
