Kape Skatebaords

Kape Skateboards is the latest in the long line of alternative skateboard manufacturing techniques. These boards are a combination of fiberglass and recycled ocean plastic, which is super cool. How much of the materials are recycled ocean plastic is hard to tell because the closest the web site comes to being specific is to say that they are “largely” made of recycled plastic sourced from the sea. These things are supposed to feel like wood for the life of the deck without getting spongey. Waterproof too… They only make one size because they are molded and not laminated, so each deck would require a different mold. Curiously, the size they came up with is an 8.25″ wide deck with a 14.13″ wheelbase that is supposed to “fit most skaters just right.” That’s an odd claim for a board that is likely wider than most kids are riding and probably has a shorter wheelbase. What do I know, I’m still riding the new old stock from my mostly dead skateboard company. You might expect to pay a premium for a long lasting deck that can’t delam and slides like everslick, and you will. It’s about $120 USD, which is the price…

Boom Art and Alain Aslan pinups

Alain Aslan was a pinup artist most famous for his work in Lui magazine. He passed away earlier this month, so it’s kind of unclear how long this limited edition skateboard set from Boom-Art has been in the works, and whether or not it’s authorized. They sent me a press release earlier this week but I accidentally deleted it, and there’s still no mention on their blog. They’ve got a high percentage of women in various states of undress on their boards. Although the do claim to have the first European female pro model. Who knows if it was a response to criticism or not, but Chloé Bernard is happy. The Nash pasties here were probably unnecessary, but to be honest, they amuse me and I enjoy placing them over naughty bits. Free love version after the jump. If you want to see bigger version of the two Lui covers in the background, you must travel back to 2007 in order to travel back to 1977.

Best $75 trucks ever (for your fingerboard)

That’s right. $75 professional quality replacement trucks for your fingerboard. My kids have handfulls of Tech Decks, and the axles on the trucks are always the first thing to break. I’ve switched out trucks and wheels for my kids so many times… but this is just a smidge too much. I suppose if you’re going to go ahead and spend $30 on replacement wheels, with bearings even, you’d want them to go on a quality truck. They even sell replacement parts for Black River trucks, like axles, bushings and kingpins. Of course, you’ll want to spend anywhere from $26 – $52 on a fingerboard deck. You could save money by picking up a complete for $28 to $60. These things seem to be a European manufacturing phenomenon, (France, Germany, Poland, three brands out of the Czech Republic!) but there are American brands included.
