Ride the Giant is a big downhill event in Alberta, Canada that looks pretty fun except for the ICP soundtrack. PDXDownhill went to the event and put together a nice video, with the exception of the juggalo soundtrack. Did I mention how much I loathe ICP, even in an ironic context? – Thanks to JP for the tip.

Mischo Erban achieved 80.83 mph on hill somewhere in Colorado on September 30, 2010, shattering his old record of 70.23 mph. This record was sanctioned by the International Gravity Sports Association. I don’t know how they get along with Guiness, who is strangely silent on the subject. At least in as much as their web site makes it impossible to find that information. The only other thing I could find online was a Gary Hardwick speed of 62.55 mph set back in 1998. I’ve often wondered what it would be like to ride a skateboard on a bobsled track. I always assumed it would be too fast to contain it, but that was before I contemplated what the surface was. Danny Strasser doesn’t have to wonder. He’s hit a bunch of tracks all over Europe. I wonder if these are sanctioned runs or barge sessions. I imagine after recent sad events these tracks might be harder and harder to get onto with four wheels. – Thanks to Jesus Crust for the tip.

When I watched the first couple minutes of the trailer for Drop: My Life Downhill., I thought it was going to be a parody. The only thing more over the top than the high contrast color filtering is the over dramatic voiceover. The good news is, you can turn the sound down for the first part and enjoy some of the great cinematography. It really is filmed well. Makes me want to race. It looks like it’s teaser for a TV show being pitched. Orangefist is the operation that made it, but strangely, it’s not highlighted on their web site.
