Unrelated reader videos
I’ve got two reader videos for you. One is from sometime friend of the site Colin Walsh (Rules!). It’s a Burnside Halloween video. The other is from someone in “The Crew” who I can’t place and probably doesn’t actually visit the site. I think it’s someone who friended me on Facebook from one of those “you might know” bubbles. Enjoy two diametrically opposed soundtracks.
GVK #60: Burnside Halloween 2010
The good, the rad, and the colorful showed up for Burnside’s 20th anniversary; a skate event that accepts all types. Sometimes there is too much testosterone flowing in a session. This was not the case at the Hallowenis event. I witnessed many bare-chested men with erect nipples; a clear sign of arousal. Be it skateboarding or bare-chestedness, both were out in full force at this yearly tribute to diversity and alternative lifestyles. Here’s a bit of what I saw.
Sponsor Luv: Baco Bits at Burnside
Recent footage shot at Burnside that is more or less the polar opposite of today’s earlier freestyle inspired footage. What’s the occasion? New team riders Brendan Garcia and Mason Merlino joining Bacon Skateboards.
The Gods smile on Burnside’s 20th
It’s supposed to be raining, but it’s a beautiful day. Bands are supposed to start at 1pm. See the Mummy Rat, or with any luck, Jack Grover. Flyer after the jump.
Capsule Rat says celebrate Burnside’s 20th
Big Halloween bash this year at Burnside. Should be bigger than usual considering it’s the 20 year anniversary. Like Jay Meer says, pray for dry weather. Dashboard is actually showing 59 degrees, partly cloudy and dry. Let’s hope it holds. Anybody help out with the pour yesterday? Flyer after the jump, or check out some photos of the party dress at Skate Daily.
Burnside pouring today
That is, if the lights and yesterdays crew lasted long enough. Grover had his camera in tow again, and he even managed to unearth the long lost relative of the Caddy Shack gopher, Benny the Burnside Rat.
Burnside construction session Tuesday
Grover says they’ll be working on adding a new capsule to Burnside on Tuesday. That’s a pretty major facelift. There’s few GVK shots after the jump.
Early Burnside video and TV news coverage
I’d place this video at maybe 93-94? That’s my layman’s-I-wasn’t-there guess. It was posted on YouTube by Nate Sherwood, so it’s mostly footage of him as a youngster, but mid way through there is some amusing footage from a local Portland news channel. Seems to be from shortly after the city of Portland decided to leave it alone. Look for Mark Scott in a Turf t-shirt. – Thanks to Malcolm MacMaster for the tip.
GVK #53: Halloween at Burnside 2009
So I did not have a lot of time to shoot footage for Halloween plus you are always so distracted by the Show. I did see a lot of good stuff that did not make it to the camera. The weather was great, awesome turn out. There is a sort of weird good family vibe at that Burnside Banks. I feel like if my kid got lost people would try to help him feel okay and get him help. Just to set the mode when I pulled up Red had the music so loud it almost hurt you ears and the song was the song from the bar scene in star wars where Luke and OB-1 meet Han Solo. Who would of thought that could hurt your ears. If you didn’t make you missed it. – Skate Off, Grover. P.S. Some of you may have seen this already, I put this together last week and got tired of waiting for Kilwag to get his site running again – See this video.
Burnside rally race
I think I was working on Grover’s miniramp when someone in the crew go the call that there was an upside down car in Burnside. I briefly contemplated going down to check it out, but even with supposed firsthand knowledge, it still seemed highly unlikely. Well, someone on the the Jalopnik blog checked it out. Jalopnik is the automotive branch of the Gawker Media blogging empire. You might have noticed a few links to their gadget site Gizmodo on select S&A posts. What happens when a car sits upside down for a period of time? Oil and other fluids start to leak out. Fun! Someone, somewhere, will blame this on BMXers. This is not the first car I’ve seen (secondhand) in Burnside. There’s video footage of some 90’s era hijinks on the punk wall. Holy cow! This site has been up for more than an hour, without being hacked and I’m actually making an update for the first time in a week. I’m testing the waters here, and I may have just jinxed it. – Thanks to Dave Arpin for the tip.
