SOTW 5-28-12: Brooklyn Street Plural
It’s too bad these aren’t old timer stereogram pics. Of course then you’d need a viewer, and the subject matter would look more like this. This week’s shot(s) of the week were poached from Daniel Evans Instagram feed on two separate occasions (one and two). I wish you could enlarge a photo on the Instagram feed on your phone for crying out loud. Getting back to the subject matter, expansion is in the works at Brooklyn Street Skate Spot, this time fully permitted before the fact. In the background of the first shot you can see a tangentially related neighborhood beautification project in the form of a street painting. Although not part of BSSS, it was the vibrant community of BSSS that drew the non-skating artists to the spot.
Brooklyn Street Benefit at Plan B Saturday
I don’t know where they dug up this before shot. Like the flyer says, benefit at Plan B, in Portland. (Seriously? MySpace?) Someone ought to throw a benefit for Plan B so they can get a web site. I see Stinkbug on the bill.
Brooklyn Street Benefit Redux
What a difference a day makes; Some more information, a new flyer, and now the beer is free. This Brooklyn Benefit will be to help fund a new miniramp section behind the back 4ft pocket to the sidewalk in the asphalt section. We want to try and raise $3,000, and although it will take a few of these fundraisers, donating (suggested) $8 will help BSSS get their faster! Please remember 21+, none of us want to be the asshole that has to turn you away. Brooklyn Street Skate Spot is now going to be under Skaters for Portland Skateparks non-profit status which will make it easier for funding and accepting other donations!
Brooklyn Street Benefit
Brooklyn Street Skate Spot Benefit on February 18th at Commonwealth, just about a week shy of Commonwealth’s 1 year anniversary. The BSSS benefit is from 7-10, with alleged bands (who?) raffles, food and beer. OK, I’m not going to argue. Flyer and video from Commonwealth’s grand opening after the jump.
SOTW 1-9-11: Brooklyn Street with Andy Anderson
This week’s Shot of the Week is Andy Anderson flying through Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in Portland, Oregon as shot by Micah Breshears. I usually fight the urge to crop and change the aspect ratio of a photograph, but in this case I prefer a different view. Andy Anderson? I once knew a guy whose dad was named Stan S. Stanley, and you know what the “s” stands for.
Sponsor Luv: Jesse McDowell on Merde
Jesse McDowell works a mean trowel and rides for Merde. Egbert had this to say: Jesse has been riding for us for about 5 months now, I think. Whenever he was in town, we’d try and get some filiming in, but he’s a pretty busy guy…building parks and what not. Either way, welcome aboard Mr. McDowell! We’re happy to have you as part of the family. Catch the sponsor luv after the jump.
Brooklyn Street Benefit BBQ Saturday
Yessir, guilty of being delicious. BBQ benefit for the Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in Portland, Oregon on saturday the 16th. Sponosors include Unheard Skate Supply, Merde Skateboards, Rip City Skates, and Cold War Skateboards. What’s going on with Brooklyn Street? When are they going to break ground on the second half? Enquiring minds want to know.
Ahh, your mother wears combat boots…
…which will come in handy this weekend if she wants to work on these DIY projects. Marginal Way in Seattle has a benefit this Saturday Sunday and Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in Portland is having one this Sunday, which is Mother’s day… so yeah, bring your mom I guess. Saturday. Flyers and video scrapbook of BSSS through the various phases (courtesy of KC) after the jump.
Brooklyn Street in the Portland Mercury
There’s an article about the Brooklyn Street Skate Spot in the Portland Mercury. The picture is old, because phase one is done, right down to the pool coping! Disturbing news though, according to the article, Portland’s light rail is set to impinge on the spot’s footprint as early as 2014. However, I’m not sure if the author did her research, that might just be a reference to the fact that the pedestrian bridge is scheduled to be demolished. The MAX would have to pull eminent domain on all the adjacent buildings and homes too. We’ll see…. There’s also an appearance from the neighborhood sourpuss who again reiterates his displeasure that the whole thing didn’t go through the proper channels. [Photo: David Lansdown]
