Landscape architects on acid.
“Sadlands on Steroids” was my second choice of titles for these pics of Plaza Bellver in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. This has got to be, what they call the shit. Possibly the best not-made-for-skating skate terrain ever? Dean Tyrell sent in these pictures (and more) after seeing the post on the French artsy fartsy skate spot. You can see more (and larger) pics of Plaza Bellver and a few legit skate spots in Palma de Mallorca Spain in the feature.
Great Rings of Joy! (?)
I had always kind of wondered if this day would come, and it looks like it is finally dawning upon us all. That’s right folks, skateboarding is being considered for the 2012 Olympic Games. Spurred on by the success (success being a relative term of course) the IOC is considering the proposal right now, which would allow our favorite 4 wheel warriors to finally win those real gold medals instead of the cheesy X-shaped ones that they win at the X Games every year. What will the track and field athletes think? Read more after the jump.
Tim Kulas Bowl Redux
Remember the Experiments in backyard maximilism? I misread Tim’s email and it turns out the bowl was in Orlando after all, which is the perfect excuse to bring up two more videos. One is classic local news crew coverage talking about a secret skateboarding society (I kid you not!) and the other is a collage of sessions that starts with Tim Kulas narrating the story of the ramp over Super 8 film footage. In true D.I.Y. fashion, both the Super 8 footage and the news coverage is captured by pointing a video camera at the projected wall and the TV respectively. Watch the videos after the jump, and don’t forget to check out Bowl Surgeon for progress on the new bowl. I’m sure Tim could use some manpower. [Source: Beer City]
Battle Ground Clampdown
Thor writes: Just a heads up. I was out there last night and had a conversation with the cops. They are working with the city to get it open early but said it is getting out of hand and they are going to have to start making examples of some people. Take it for whatever its worth but I think I’m going to Newberg this weekend. photo lifted from Bryce Kanights photography
Don’t Call It “The Dew Action Sports Tour” No More!
I just got an email from someone I’ve never met in this wonderful skateboard industry. Getting stuff like this is sorta funny to me because it really doesn’t matter to me. I’ll still go, because I have to scope out the next big name in skateboarding. Like for instance- young David Loy won this event last year in the SCAM THE AM tour- now the kid is featured in the Jeep commercial with the Birdman. Well with this announcement they are challenging the best english teachers across the good ole USA by doing this: “Please see the attached press release announcing the re-branding of the Dew Tour. Moving forward we will no longer be referred to as the “Dew Action Sports Tour. ” Our new name is the “ASPT Dew Tour, The Action Sports Pro Tour.” Moving forward please refer to us as the “ASPT Dew Tour” or the “Dew Tour” and no longer use the “Dew Action Sports Tour” callout or logos when referencing the tour. Our site has also changed to www.asptdewtour.com .” Well, you heard it here first. Big Whoop-eee!
Corvallis Pool
This pool was up and running for just about forever and a day. There were rumors of $200 tickets being given out but that was likely just subterfuge as nobody seemed to actually know anyone personally who had gotten a ticket. The pool was in a motel that was being torn down. Seems like that was going around this summer. In any case, there are action photos to be seen as well. I’m trying a different approach to the thumbnails for the sake of uniformity and saving a little production time. Sometimes they are close to full frames of the enlarged versions, sometimes they just highlight interesting parts. Please let me know in the comments how you think it works out. Check it out.

The captions read “Business in front. Party in the back!” This house with a private bowl is for sale in Salem Oregon. Check out the Claiming blog for the details. Update: Post has been removed – WTF?
Powell clothing available at. . . . Nordstroms????
I quote from the press release: “In the 80’s there was no bigger skateboard company than Powell Peralta. . . . One of the key factors to Powell’s dominance as a skateboard powerhouse were the ground-breaking graphics. Using extremely dark and detailed hand drawn image of skulls, snakes and dragons, PP was the first skate/street company to throw such taboo images into the mainstream. . . . Today designer Danny Drake has teamed up with George Powell to reissue a collection of 8 of the most memorable graphics in skate history on updated bodies. These PP items are an extremely limited edition and are only available in “The Rail” at Nordstom”.
Wallos… Again.
Vieira has some cool pics of Wallos aon a new blog that I thought I’d pass on seeing as how our Newcastle feature just made mention of it. Looks like they dug a weird trench through the middle (10 years ago..). Not sure if that was to dissuade skaters, cause Vieira’s short on the details. In any case, make sure you click on the pics to get the larger view on Claiming. Top: Tommy Guerrero skates Wallos on the April ’85 cover of Thrasher over a detail from Vieira’s post. Check it out.
