Do the funky snake

Kevin Live found this funky snakeboard variation in a thrift store for 8 bucks and decided not to buy it. I don’t know how he was able to pass on that amazing alternative truck technology.

Skipper is a sporting girl

Editor’s Note: I found this post draft from 2012… I wonder what I was waiting for.

She may not be an actual sporting girl, in the Deadwood era meaning of the term, but Skipper is still an expensive date. $139 on eBay, which is ridiculous, but this old Barbie spinoff toy regularly goes for that kind of money. This doll’s name is Fluff actually, she’s Skipper’s playmate. “Fluff is a sporting girl” was just a bit much. Besides, she’s already been covered.

For any occasion

Avert your eyes from this advert found in the June 21st, 2015 edition of the NY Times magazine. Brian and Brody are sporting their finest for Father’s Day. Countess Mara makes accessories for any occasion, as long was the occasion calls for a tie or a bowtie. Send them your skate photos, you could end up in their next national advertisement.

Scott Starr fund

Noted photographer, skate/surf film and TV historian Scott Starr has been diagnosed with Menieres Disease. He’s also considered a friend of the site for sure. I have featured his digital transfers of archival footage her on S&A over the years under the banner of “Saturday Starrs” and I’ve bought a few comic books from him that have also graced the pages of S&A. I’ve never met him but he’s always been gracious enough to answer my questions via email. Skip your Starbucks for a day to help Scott out via a GoFundMe campaign that his sister set up.

Lexus behind the Hoverboard curve

I think someone in marketing forgot to tell the decision maker at Lexus that the “real” hoverboard viral marketing campaign has already been done. It’s barely been a year, and since that time an actual working hoverboard (of sorts) has been created. So it’s extremely unlikely that Lexus has made such an amazing leap in technology. Sure they could make a prettier version of the Hendo, but you’d still have to ride it on a special surface. I’m sure it won’t cost much to retrofit an average skatepark for maglev technology. If you’re buying into it, they’re going to release more details on Oct. 21, 2015, which is the date Marty McFly went “Back to the Future.” I guess they couldn’t wait till the next April Fools day. It looks like the old Tony Hawk Ride game controller from Activision. (Yes, I’ll eat my hat if I’m wrong, but I’ll be excited about it.)

UPDATE: it looks like they’re building a special skatepark for this board. Pics and link after the jump. – Thanks to Josef for the tip.

blockhead

Blockhead Skates Relaunch

Blockhead Skateboards holds a strange place in my personal skateboarding history. It is easily one of the top 4 brands that I admired in the 80’s, and yet I never actually owned one. I did own one of those Easter Island head shirts, and we interviewed Sam Cunningham in issue #5 of Skate and Annoy when it was a zine. And our buddy Swiv was on the flow team for a while. Added to the list of things I said I would do but never quite got around to is making a website for Blockhead Skateboards. Well, Dave and Ron have done fine without my help, and now they are back in business with new decks and re-issues as well. If you blinked then you missed the availability of the original Streetstyle deck cut from blanks pressed when the deck was in the final phases of production. These uncut blanks (maple and fiberglass) were almost 30 years old, and were kept in storage by a former manager of the Uncle Wiggley wood shop. Only 30 of these were made available, and not surprisingly, they sold out within a day. So, I apologize to our readers for not getting this out sooner. If it’s any consolation, There’s still lots of Blockhead goodness available, and you can still get a Skate Crate from Dave. I’m kicking myself for not ponying up for one of these…

Legit

This picture doesn’t do the size of these bearing covers justice. These tiny wheels are not the result of hipster irony or a 90’s street skating reenactment hobbyist. It’s a result of Zoo Bombing, slipping axles, exposed axle nuts being ground down, and yes, economics. It’s his birthday soon, so he’s looking forward to a new set of wheels and trucks.
