Skate and Annoy: Daily
The Young residents of Kansas City, MO
I find the title of Fox 4 of Kansas City, Missouri’s story amusing: “Young residents continue to build skating facility at Columbus Park despite knowing it will eventually be torn down.” Yes, you silly young residents, keep beating your heads against the wall. It’s another sanctioned DIY spot with planned obsolescence in it’s future. Sound familiar? The spot looks good, but what is it called? It seems to be in the middle of nowhere, yet somehow developers have their eye on the location. Get some while you can, you never know how these things will end up. Yes you do, but keep your dreams alive, young residents.
Steve Harvey, Sky and Ocean
The April 27th episode of the Steve Harvey Show featured those two child prodigies you’ve likely already seen on Facebook, Sky and Ocean. This time the video is online, unlike the last time Steve Harvey talked about skateboarding on TV. Old man Steve (not Grover) actually got on a skateboard too. [Source: Girlisnota4letterword.com]
Skateboard Scene Ads: Welsh Edition
Two skateboard shops from Wales, Dave Friar’s Surf Shop and the Welsh Skateboard Centre. Then there’s Mercury Flyer air freighted skateboards direct from the USA, and the Superb Sitco Rocket.
Free Stuff Pile
Free stuff is free stuff, right? There’s so many levels of DIY modification and outside of the box thinking going on here that I had to snap some pictures. For instance: Outgrown your old deck? Just bolt it on to a new one! Nice work with the rounded handlebar too.
Vintage Grits
Brand new, vintage-style artwork hand painted on a NOS vintage skateboard, an idea close to my heart. I’ve still got that box of NOS steel wheel skateboard truck combos in my basement. Although my intent was to screen print graphics on brand new hardwood decks with the same shape. Grits Co takes it a step further. – Thanks to MC for the tip.
Gator Skater
Check out these amusing little animated shorts created by Nate Milton. [Source: Fecalface] – Thanks to MC for the tip.
Fun, action and excitement
Tyrie Smith found this old skateboard ad for Steve’s South Bay Sporting Goods in the 1976 Marvel Two-in-one comic book with the Thing and Ka-Zar. Fortunately for Skate and Annoy’s readers, Tyrie’s barber shop has a stack of comic books laying around. Steve’s South Bay also advertised in skateboard magazines. Hey gang! Here’s a chance to bring all the fun, action and excitement of skateboarding to your front door! – Thanks to Tyrie Smith for the tip
Who dis?
Jeff Proctor’s friend enlarged this from a 2 inch image in Thrasher a long, long time ago. Now he can’t remember who it is. Do you know? ( Insert sad commentary about what passes for “content” on Skate and Annoy these days. ) UPDATE: It’s Richard Armijo
Vintage Skateboard Scene Ads-nausem
On this the seventh installment of vintage skateboard magazine ads, the two most interesting additions are for Skateboards Hot Gear, mainly for the illustration, and Fireball Hot Wheels, which possibly predate G&S Rollerballs, although I can’t confirm that yet. The also-rans include Skateboard Rider Skateshop, Furley and Baker Skateboard Range, Southern Skateboard Centre, and Truckstop.
Tacocat: Hey Girl
Old school analog stop action animation and old school 90’s Riot Grrrl music going way back to… oh, 2014. Skateboarding! She’s no Maria McKee. ( Looks for crosslink on Skate and Annoy with Lone Justice video of Ways to be Wicked with Maria McKee on a skateboard, doesn’t find it, rectifies situation in this post. )
