Skate and Annoy: Daily
It’s all worth it
Sometimes I get depressed about all the petty bickering that goes on here concerning transition and street plazas, skateboard collecting, and whatever nonproductive mudslinging that surrounds a site with a name like Skate and Annoy. On other days I am pleasantly surprised with emails from people who have actually found the site useful and inspiring. Kyle Pratt of Team Nasty sent in some pictures after getting stoked by our DIY tutorial on screenprinting for skateboards. I’ve gotten quite a few responses from the articles, but rarely any pictures. Send in your pics if you actually follow any of our advice, and I’ll put them up. If you’re in the Morrisville, PA area, keep an eye out for these Team Nasty riders.
Hood River is still Open
When is a hippie jump not a hippie jump? When you hippie jump a hesher. Here’s a few more pics from the Hood river field office, AKA Carl Warren. Bonus shots after the jump.
With friends like these…
“Hey I just moved out of town and now I’m living in a state that’s lousy with homes in foreclosure and empty pools. My pump isn’t working… waaaah! If you’re going to have a gallery of unskateable pools, why not show some skateboard ready ones too?” Thanks a lot man. I really feel for you, Runaway.
Mall Grab
Here’s a video titled Mall Grab, put together by Steven Reeves, the same guy who brought you Bailgun the video, not the zine. These guys have a fun crew, and it shows in the video. – Thanks To Daniel Evans for the tip.
Gallery of empty square pools
Gigi Cifali has some great pictures of unskateable empty pools. You could hang these in your house and visitors would have to decode them to figure out that you are a skateboarder. Well except for that Zorlac shrine in the bedroom. Click on the Absence of Water link (second from the left. Link from the William Gibson blog.
John Doe Zine Interview archives
As art of the upcoming celebration of 20 years (!!) of John Doe Zine, they’ve just republished some old interviews, circa 1991 with such names as Christian Hosoi, Tommy Guerrero, Ben Schroeder, Bryce Kanights, Jason Carney, Steve Rocco, Armando Barajas, Rick Ibaseta, Tom Knox, Tod Swank, Lance Conklin, Mike Ternasky, Andy Howell, Neal Hendrix, Brennand Schoffel, Chris Pastras, Rick Ibaseta, Mike Taylor and Jim Theibaud. Yowza! Out of date to be sure, but interesting to read in the context of historical perspective and hindsight.. Be forewarned, it’s a short scroll from the interviews to some decidedly NSFW images. They really ought to do an interview with, you know, the real John Doe.
SOTW 4-20-09: Andy Goncher in Atlanta GA
This week’s Shot of the Week is a Jeffery Beard shot of Andy Goncher taken in Atlanta, Georgia in March of this year. That’s right, streetskating you mofos! Fakie to kickflip. Kickflip to fakie. Check out the Shot of the Week.
Name this movie
More movie madness, or should I say radness, from Joesf Heffner. Name this movie. I’ll give you a hint: It involves historical characters. Get the answer after the jump.
Hoverboard Holly
Here’s a hoverboard shot from a Photoshop contest for “Coolest toy ever” on Worth 1000. I thought it might be one of mine at first, but it turned out to be an EPM shot of Holly Lyons from Rich’s 2007 Trifecta Lincoln City coverage. Rich’s pics have been getting poached by the Photoshoppers lately, and even though it must be somewhat annoying, this is a pretty funny end result. – Thanks to Sheltered Productions for the tip.
Burnside Nontest Benefit for expansion
Burnside nontest and fundraiser for expansion of the Burnside project, going on Saturday the 18th. We must be on the official kook list because nobody asked us to donate or promote this event. Oh well. Little known fact: Mark Conahan was the one who secured the noise permit for the event yesterday afternoon. DJ Red and and lots of skating, loud music, general shenanigans. Full flyer after the jump.
