Skate and Annoy: Daily
Mecha skate
Another wackyboard design concept. These things keep getting more and more complicated. You’d think the industrial design tinkerers would push for simpler. Those wheels have a heavy 70’s vibe to them. – Thanks to (drumroll please….) Daddy Yo (!) for the tip.

Friday T&A on S&A: Basilio Silva.
Been a while, huh? This is the work of Argentine fashion photographer Basilio Silva, undoubtedly inspired by a certain Dwarves album cover. That shape looks very familiar… The first and last links in this post are NSFW.

Park-Pro, exclusively at Kmart.
The Park-Pro, not to be confused with Ken Park and one of the most unlikely re-issues. I thought I had a YouTube video with Ken Park giving a parking lot demo in the 80’s, but I can’t find it. Oh well. At least you can still get a quality skateboard product from Kmart. I’m actually digging that die cut grip tape. Maybe I should try to bring that back.
Neighbors
The “skateboard” key word channel on my DVR picked up a show on Current TV. I was a bit confused because to get to it I had to FF through 10 minutes of a segment titled “Why we shave down there,” with a bunch of women talking about, well, you know. There was indeed some skateboarding, a fun little street sequence featuring skateboarder and artist Mark Warren Jacques. Turns out he lives in Portland is a partner in a gallery that is about 10 blocks away from where I live, yet I’ve never been in there. I guess I’ll have to remedy that. Catch the clip by Joe Lumbroso and info about some upcoming exhibits after the jump.
Birthday BS
More skateboarding birthday party paraphernalia, once again thanks to Larry Pescatore. I dig the big poster with the face cut out that you are supposed to hang in front of a door way for photo opps. I see GVK making one of those. Enlarge-o-rama.
Thinking about rollerblading?
Someone on Madison Avenue is earning their paycheck. What are the odds of a skateboard blog picking up and posting something only marginally sideways related? I was skeptical when I got the email, but this Dos Equis commercial featuring “the most interesting man in the world; On rollerblading” actually made me snort. I need to learn how and when to use semicolons. Just say “Dos Equis.”
– Thanks to Ash for the tip.
Brian Brannon interview forthcoming
Just a quick note to let you know that an excellent interview with Brian Brannon is coming to Skate and Annoy as soon as I get a little bit more of this hosting mess sorted out. The image above is from the Vintage T-Shirts book by Lisa Kidner and Sam Knee. Brian said that shirt was a little embarrassing.
No skateboarding
Three no skateboarding signs. Kathleen just sent me one and I’ve been hoarding the others.
Imagining a world without spray paint
The Vancouver Sun reports that a civil suit against a guy who spray painted at a skatepark has resulted in an award of $6400 to the city.
Steve Jobs beats Hawk, Honda doesn’t care
Steve Jobs is the most respected and admired entrepreneur amongst the teenagers in U.S. according to a survey conducted by Junior Achievement. He beat out other celebrity entrepreneurs, most notably (in our case), Tony Hawk. Don’t feel bad for Tony. The folks at Honda motors admired him enough to use him in a film talking about competition and drive, designed to promote their new FCX Clarity fuel cell powered electric vehicle. You can watch the seven minute Race against Time after the jump. Plus, it’s not as if Tony hasn’t already appeared in several advertisements for Apple.
