Skate and Annoy: Daily
Longboard Larry looted
Longboard Larry, an established and respected craftsman of custom handmade longboards in Oregon, was robbed recently. He’s offering a store credit as a reward if anyone can help with information to track down the booty or perp.
– Thanks to Matthijs for the tip. The theft happened about an hour away from my house, but I found out from a guy that lives in the Netherlands.
Errr… Grapple! (?)
Grapple. Gorilla apple? No, that would be Gorapple. Grape apple? That makes no sense, but it hasn’t stopped someone from developing a grape infused apple. USA! USA! USA! USA! Now they just need to make a baby version. Nobel Peace Prize or sign of the apocalypse?
– Thanks to Justin Owen for the picture.
Tommy McGuigan Skate Jam, July 28th
The BCSA is hosting “Shredageddon” a memorial skate jam at the Corvallis Skatepark on Saturday July 28th in honor of Tommy McGuigan. The event includes live music from Love Songs from the Hated, hot dogs and drinks and Skate Challenges.
The Skate Challenge includes: a timed speed track challenge, longest grind in the bowl, high ollie/hippie jump, best trick (Cash Prize!) and best trick in the bowl (Cash Prize!). All skaters under 16 must wear a helmet. All riders must sign a waiver. Parental authorization required for all risers under 18.
Sponsored by: The Uprise skate shop in Corvallis.
Caution Attention Cuidado
Workplace humor perpetrated by non-skater. Classic slippery floor sign turned into a Wilson. Skateboard placement was coincidental.
Tiger’s Blood Extreme Chill
MC is on a road trip, checking out some skate spots in Idaho and Colorado. He found Tiger’s Blood Extreme Chill in a gas station in Boise. looks like the proprietor put up a poster of his kid (or someone) at a local spot. Locals only slushies! I’ll take a large cup of Igloo Caps please.
Facememe
This gangsta owl on a skateboard is floating around Facebook. The real question for Skate and Annoy nerds is what cartoon is this from? Anyone know the answer? (I don’t, I just want to know.)
UPDATE: It’s “Old Man Owl” from the 1996 Sonic The Hedgehog animation. Originally an OVA (Original Video Animation) on two separate tapes. ADV then got the rights for American release and consolidated them as a movie in 1999. Thanks to reader Caleb for clearing this up.
Skate Parkour dog
The Evergreen Skateparks crew is cruising on a good looking project in Modiin, Israel that will be the country’s largest skatepark. While researching this post I got totally distracted by their unusual promo footage featuring a rad little dog. The promo footage was already pretty damned cool, and logo montage at the very end is the icing on the concrete cake. Some of those guys on the crew look familiar…
Errr… Fully integrated skate dog
Well, they are skateboard trucks. Near as I can tell, this is the source.
– Thanks to Sarib for the tip.
Tony Hawk at Burnside
I did not see Tony Hawk’s unannounced stop at Burnside yesterday, but I did make these nifty shelves in my garage instead. It would take me half a day to get this into the form of a cartoon like MC does, so this is what you get instead.
Frame 1: Caption – “1986” 1st guy speech bubble – “Tony Hawk is at our local skatepark right now!”
Frame 2: 2nd Guy speech bubble – “Oh man, I’m going to blow off finals for this, lets go!”
Frame 3: Caption – “2012” – 1st guy (looks older) speech bubble – “Tony Hawk is at our local skatepark right now!”
Frame 4: 2nd guy (looks older) speech bubble – “I think I’m going to build shelves in my garage.”
I’m not dissing Tony, I’m sure he was rad. I saw that he even graciously posed for some photos with grooms.
Interesting side note: The story behind why Portland wasn’t an official stop on his tour is a disappointing one.
