I’ll join you too… The official title of this publication is “Archie’s Girls Betty & Veronica.” Archie’s been skating since the 60’s. His previous appearances here have only cover-only affairs, but this issue (#250 October, 1976) actually has a skateboarding story inside. Archie gets away with murder as far as the ladies go. I don’t know if Betty and Veronica have ever wised up, but you’d think they would have ditched him. Veronica always seemed more appealing to me when I could stomach to read Archie, but in this comic I’m squarely on Betty’s side. Turns out Betty is a good skater. She’s so good that she’s giving pointers to the guys in the gang, who are doting on her purely because of her skills and not because of her feminine wiles. Big surprise, Veronica is jealous of the attention. I wonder if this the origin of the term “Skate Betty?” Sit back and enjoy the “Wheel Zeal” and let me know if you what the heck the”Shu-Fly” variation of the Christie is.

Imagine if the Weekly World News only produced content for skateboarders. I’d swear it had something to do with Salba, but I can’t find it.

This is Richie Rich #163 published in February of 1978 by Harvey Publications. As a child, I never understood the appeal of Richie Rich. Why would anyone want to read about a kid who was absurdly rich unless he was also Batman? In 1978, Richie is on the forefront of the novelty skateboard trend with this dollar sign shaped deck. He’s got bling too – that looks like some sort of gem covered mounting hardware. “With a model like this, I’ll never be skate-bored!” Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk…

As Box-o-Car used to say, “What a drag, such a bummer. Here it comes, the end of summer.” But until that actually gets here, there’s plenty of opportunities for an old fashioned BBQ with your plastic robot plates. The funny thing about this robot is that he already has wheels, or at least treads, and he’s still riding a skateboard. He does look happy though.

I feel sorry for the “model” who got a big break only to end up bent over facing away from the camera with a Jimmy’Z fanny pack and her ass being the main attraction of the poster. “Look Ma, I’m on a poster!” Unbelievably, the seller thinks this is worth $79! I made an offer $10, which he refused. I upped the ante to $11, and the seller countered with $35. I don’t think they recognized the sarcasm in my bids.

Lizzie Armanto has a small piece in Seventeen magazine. With excerpts like this, it’s no wonder Lizzie has neglected to update the “coverage” section of her web site.

In many ways, 20-year-old Lizzie is totally typical—she takes silly selfies with her BFFs, loves sleeping in, and munches on donuts after practice…

It’s not the type of hard hitting journalism I’d expect from the first (1944) American magazine published for teens. I can’t tell if this is an online only appearance or if she’s in a print edition too. I must have let my subscription lapse.

Not sure if this custom Ducati mod is supposed to be called a “Street Thrasher,” but the photographer’s web site calls it a “Street Trasher”. Either way, it can probably take this Baretta. There you have it, a skateboard rack built into your $10,000 motorcycle, for those days when your chauffeur can’t make it to the session. After deliberation, I like it. But I’d be worried that the laser cut grip tape would start to peel off after a short while, making an expensive bike look, well, like trash.
