Steve Schneer was a professional skater in at least 3 decades, and yes he invented one of the more memorable tricks in skateboarding. There’s an excellent Jim Goodrich photo of Steve from 1979 that was a SOTW here on S&A. I only met Steve a couple times, but he was always approachable and bringing smiles to those around him. I know it’s highly unusual for Mike V. to be involved with any sort of…drama, but after he kicked Ron Reyes out of the reformed Black Flag while on stage in Australia, and Reyes predicted that Mike V would replace him… two months later Mike V is officially the new singer of Black Flag. Vallely is still managing and speaking for the band, with his usual Mike V / Minisitry of Truth newspeak. Meanwhile Ginn is suing members of Flag as well as Henry Rollins over trademark of the word “Flag” and the Black Flag logo. I seem to recall an interview where Raymond Pettibon claimed he never got paid for any of his artwork that Black Flag used, but I can’t verify that. The new Black Flag has plans to record a new album in 2014, while Flag will likely continue to play the music of Black Flag without all the drama, or worrying about proving they can “be a stronger, more cohesive, tighter band.” [Source: Dying Scene – Photo: SST]

Pacer was a brand from the UK that produced some decent boards during the late 70s and early 80s. Towards the end of the 80s they started to make rather crappy completes (pics after the jump). Still, the decks in the picture above (both from eBay) are definitely bootlegs from the original 1988 ‘Maniac’ deck, designed by Doug Cameron. The left one has the typical flat pig-like shape that most of the very cheap decks have and still have, but the funny thing about this one is that the front picture was stolen from a 1987 Valterra team deck called … ‘Ramp Champ’. The complete on the right seems to be a Rusher Sports, which surprises me, since Rusher Sports was a well-known company that had their own designs and the shape was different than this one, if I remember well. I have never seen a Rusher Sports that copied from the big brands, so maybe it’s a Rusher Sports/Pacer bootleg.

Ahhhh, the extent that Nestle will go to trying to sell you horse hooves and cow muscles. It’s called “Bon Parj Jumble” and this commercial is for the Russian market, or at least was done by a Russian agency. Director Alberto Accettulli must like skateboards, as he also directed a commercial for Nike SB. Who knew Michael Cera (above, left) was on the stunt team? – Thanks to David Leclerc for the tip.

UM YEAH FILMS Presents – “Cuatro Suenos Pequenos” (four small dreams) – A new skate film – Visual Audio Experiment by Thomas Campbell. This 21 minute movie was shot entirely on 16mm film in a dream scene scenario that blends reality, surreality and a skate adventure starring Javier Mendizabal and Madars Apse. This film captures Javier Brushing his teeth,slobbering on his pillow, bedding down with a beautiful brunette. Also Javi running into Madars Apse in his dream, they skate over volcano’s, thru the woods and into cities of Spain,The Canary Islands,Mallorca, The Basque country and California.This film has a completely original soundtrack by the critically acclaimed Basque super group “Chiwoks.” And besides the usual unusual camera perspectives you expect from a Thomas Campbell film. French Fred is also is on board Lending his iconic visual wizardry to this cauldron of the bizarre, beauty and gnar. And now you know as much about this project as I do. I had a hard time picking one still frame to represent this post, I would watch the trailer if I were you. This looks very interesting. They had a showing in Paris with the band who scored the music performing the soundtrack live.…

Where was the Golfboard when Schwing! magazine was in it’s heyday? Did Schwing! ever have a heyday? The GolfBoard’s primary innovation over any other electric skateboard seems to be the optional addition of a handle for holding a golf bag, which would make it more of a scooter, and the uncanny way in which the marketing manages to avoid the word “skateboard” while repeatedly mentioning surfing and snowboarding. They did appear to accidentally use the word in the title of their first youtube video. That must have been before the focus groups and marketing research raised a flag. Another possible innovation, they’ve gotten some insurance companies on board to help facilitate leases and rentals through golf courses. The’ve even got professional surfer Laird Hamilton on board. Demographically, the golfing public at large used to be diametrically opposed to skateboarders. Suddenly, the old Nike SB commercial with the golfers getting kicked off the course is moot. There are two main selling points the GolfBoard: Less wear and tear on the golf course as opposed to traditional golf carts, and a new “fun” way to experience the course that also has some health benefits through increased activity, again compared to riding in…
