Tinkertoy Skateboard and Rider
I have no idea what the date is on this set. It’s #191, and still a Questor/Child Guidance company. Playschool bought them in 1985. The packaging on this looks like some sets from the late 70s. The one I have does not actually have enough pieces to build a skateboard or anything else, so I essentially bought a container for 3 bucks. UPDATE: Added some pics of more complete set with instructions from Ebay.
Is this a thing?
Because this is what skateboarding is all about. FOR AUCTION IS THIS VINTAGE (1950?) BUNNY RIDING A SKATEBOARD. ABOVE HIS HEAD IS A RED UMBRELLA, ATTACHED TO WHICH ARE SIX SPOKES WITH STARS AND BALLS. WIND UP THE BUNNY AND HE TRAVELS IN CIRCLES WHILE ABOVE HIS HEAD THE UMBELLA SPINS AND THE STARS AND BALLS EXTEND OUTWARD. THE PICTURES OF THIS TOY IN ACTION DO NOT DO IT JUSTICE. THIS TOY IS ALL CELLULOID, EXCEPT FOR THE SHAFT OF THE UMBRELLA, THE WHEELS AND THE HOUSING OF THE CLOCKWORK MECHANISM. IT IS IN MINT CONDITION. IT MEASURES 8” HIGH; THE SKATEBOARD IS 2.25” WIDE AND 3.5” LONG. IT WAS MADE IN JAPAN. These stars and planets revolve around his head as he rolls on the skateboard. Maybe it’s a cartoon slam simulator.
Which Zhu is You?
Zhu Zhu pets were all the rage with the toddler crowd about two years ago, then they kind of jumped the shark and sputtered. They even tried to branch out with some ninja appeal but it didn’t seem to work because they were soon relegated to bargain bins. I caught a few minutes of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and was surprised that there was actually a Zhu Zhu Pets float. It reminded me that I had some skateboard-related Zhu Zhu pets in the hopper.
Toy Boarders Series 2
Toy Boarders Series 2 is out. The glass ceiling on skateboard toys has finally been broken. Welcome additions to the series of plastic army men style skateboard figures include a female skater and a filmed. Noticeably missing, the gutter punk and tight pants rocker. While I’m at it, there should be a scrounge and maybe a little kid buttboarding and getting in everyone’s way.
Durable Plastic
Durable plastic. Wheelies and spinouts! Goes forward! SkateBot from Playtime, circa 1986. Robot. Varibot. Frontside Indy! Radical? ebay!
Justice Man with amazing “non-fall” action
The Justice Man on a skatebaord hasa [sic] amazing “non-fall” action. Go forward and turn right automatically as soon as he comes to an “edge”. Super Bat. Non-Fall Action. Awesome eBay action. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip. (It’s his day today.)
Buddy the RC Skate Dog
One thing you’ll notice about Buddy The Skate Dog is that he’s house trained. So house trained in fact, that he’s not leaving the box, because he costs about $50. After this little photo shoot he went back to the kennel.
Fingerlongboards
I’m surprised it has taken this long for Tech Deck to release longboard style fingerboards. Actually, I could have sworn they had a limited release of some already. This time they are upping the ante by introducing more longboard-centric models like pintails and drop boards. They even go out of the way to show the flex. Finglonger not required. Video after the jump. – Thanks to Greg Baller for the tip.
Torpedos for kids
These are damned cool. Probably massively expensive since they are listed as “price on request.” I a full grown man and I want ride on one right now. They evoke everything I remember about the first time I rode a skateboard. What are they made of? A “laminate shell,” which doesn’t really tell us much, but it sure paints up nice. Designed by Anna & Jerry Koza, available in Prague. [Source: Design42day] – Thanks to Boy for the tip.
