Apple hearts skateboarding and iPods
Another day, another iPod, another skateboarding video. iPod Nanos now have the ability to shoot video, among other things, and the video recording information page features skateboarding. The actual video footage shown is decent enough, with the exception of the overacting by the guys in it. It’s kind of funny, actually. Someone at the ad agency has watched some skateboarding clips on YouTube, or possibly looked over their offspring’s shoulder as they watched a skate video. You can almost imagine them advising the cast of the shoot on how to make it “realistic.” It has a little bit of that cellphone video quality, probably due to the liquid lens the camera uses. It’s a bit warpy when the camera moves, but it’s not bad for an mp3 player. You can watch it on the Apple site. After the jump, view the iPhone 3Gs TV commercial that features a miniramp.
Part of the landscape
Here’s a flyer for something called the Scion Garage Fest that features the Burnside project for an event that has nothing to do with skateboarding as near as I can tell. Burnside = Portland. CHeck out the whole flyer at the Portland Mercury. – Thanks to GN for the tip.
iPhone skateboard trifecta
Three bits of iPhone related skateboard news at once. First up, Apple’s advertisement for the video shooting and editing (!) capabilities of the the new iPhone. Check it out here. Somebody built a nice miniramp for that hurricane wall studio setup. I wonder what happened to it afterwards. Next up, Made for Skate has launched an iPhone app version of their collection of skateboard shoe history. Aside from the massive historical archives at your fingertips, you also get free updates, a store locator, etc… If you are obsessively into skate shoes, this would seem to be your go to app. Not bad for two bucks. Made for Skate web site has been recently updated with new pictures from their ongoing exhibitions, and wallpapers for your desktop and phones. Lastly, there is an iPhone app called Go SK8 that is the high tech equivalent of those hand held golf counters or ball, strike out clickers that little league baseball umpires use. It does more than just keep track of your letters, it will also randomly pick your tricks. You can choose three different skill levels and three different terrain types (flatground, rails and transition) I suppose that would be a good…
Brain Injury Association of America
The Brain Injury Association of America wants you to wear a helmet while skateboarding. Who knew there was such an association? Do you have to have a brain injury to join, or do they give you one when sign up? Maybe someone with brain damage chose the name, because it sounds like an organization in favor of brain injuries. It’s obvious that the art director who chose this skateboarding butt shot had a brain injury. “Mom, Dad, I’m going to be on a poster!” – Thanks to Danimal for the photo.
Skate theme targets teen scene
So… you can get t-shirts printed up and then compressed into the shape of a skateboard, among other things, and then covered with a promotional graphic and encased in shrink wrap. In other words: Get air with a skate theme that targets the teen scene. Errr.. right. Three models available, all of them not quite right.
Friday T&A on S&A: Mishka Pinup Calendar
This is from the 2009 pinup calendar published by the NYC clothing brand Mishka, and shot by fashion and pinup photog Ellen Stagg. Looks like it’s sold out or missing from the web site, so no idea whether or not there were more skateboards than the one found on the cover. There’s a coule sentences from Ellen on the Mishka site, and a large version of the cover on Frank151.
Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.
In high school I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle. I still do, but I used wake up on school days an hour earlier than I had to, just so I could watch reruns of a cartoon that was already almost 20 years old. The show ran in various formats on network TV from 1959-1973, even though the production stopped in 1964. Syndication followed later. The General Mills corporation was the main sponsor, so it’s no surprise that they used Rocky and Bullwinkle in some advertising. This is from a full page ad from an unnamed comic book that allegedly ran in 1966.
Distance Learning for Pat
This image comes from the home page for the distance learning portion of the Portland Community College web site. Actually, now they are calling it “Distance Education.” No word on if this is an actual student or a stock photo, as well as whether it’s a boy or a girl. – Thanks to Mrs GVK for the tip.
Inspired by our Swedish heritage
From a recent Hanna Andersson catalog, offering “quality clothing for kids and families, inspired by our Swedish heritage.”
Put a little Squirt in your life
You might think it’s the ad copy from a marital aids catalog, but no, it’s a 1977 slogan from the makers of Squirt soda. This sticker was poached from Jason Liebig’s Flickr stream collection of pop culture. He’s the same guy responsible for putting all the vintage Christmas catalogs online, featured here on SnA. He must have a busy scanner.
