Crocs, the manufacturer of those ubiquitous vinyl shoes has released a shoe they are marketing as “street smart.” I don’t think they are positioning the Devario as an actual skate shoe, but just look at that cute creature on the skateboard. You know, I’ve been to the 80’s, and I never saw these Nerful toys the whole time I was there. They even had TV commercials. Nerfuls were basically balls with faces that sat in little stand. Think of it as an old school Weeble with a custom egg cup. Stewie and Campy Nerful came with a skateboard.

Guess what? It’s Turf week on Skate and Annoy. All Turf, all the time. We have a campaign going to help save Surfin’ Turf/ The Turf skatepark here in Milwaukee, WI. We even went so far as to dig out one of the bowls last night and made it on the 10:00 news. Just another skate church, so I wouldn’t normally feature it were it not for the fact that this one is youth led, and well, this horribly awkward photo they used to illustrate it. Actually, as far as skate photos go, it blows. But if you look at the enlargement, something about the guy in the background watching this kid flail is appealing. The real burn is that this short movie is just an extrapolated version of a dandruff commercial circa 2001 or so. I thoght I posted it already but I don’t think I have. Basically, it’s a skateboarder with a flaming head raging through the streets. Pretty much the same thing, though years earlier and not as well shot or polished in post production. I’ll have to dig through my tapes when I get home and put it up. Once the visual effects turn on, all reality is thrown out the window, so even on some of the more believable sequences it’s impossible to tell what is real. What’s it for? A new product from Coca Cola called Burn Energy Drink. According to Creative Review: “The crux of our approach was to involve pre-existing communities in the creation and distribution of the key campaign assets Those sequences that are real and establishing shots were filmed in Mexico City. The skateboarding bandit has struck again. I’m going to declare it now. He’s a modern day folk hero. Clyde (his board is Bonnie). Just like Jessie James, I hear he’s cheating on Sandra Bullock. No new photo though, so we’re still at sqaure one as far as identifying his skateboard company of choice. The LA Times credits this phototo the FBI, but shouldn’t it really go t the bank or the company that manufactures the security camera. And seriously, it’s 2010. Seriously. Joining a semi-pro hockey team and quitting his bread and butter sponsor Element in a few short weeks? His new skateboard company is called By the Sword, No wait, try this one instead. The OC Weekly interviewed him about it. He’s also setting up a skatepark tour where you can buy tickets to hang out with him. I’m sure he’s got another movie or two in the can or in the works. He’s a busy, busy guy who makes some odd decisions. He must be putting the fear of God into his press agent because it seems like I get an email every other day. The image above is a still within a still from the Mike V promo reel. He should have put news footage of his brawl outside the hockey rink. It’s probably not in the best interest of promoting the Mike V franchise, but it would have demonstrated a good sense of humor.

I’m pretty sure this is the same board from Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory. It’s pretty tame video until you get to the end part where the guy jumps off and appears to get run over. I can’t believe they let that thing roll unchecked, and then didn’t follow through. There’s probably more footage elsewhere, looks like it’s on Woodward property.
