Any little bumps?
The folks (volks) at Made for Skate recently had a display in The Skateboard Museum called Metal Battle in celebration of a Nike SB collab styled after the oldest school Roller Derby skateboards. Dig the inserts on these. The design for the show flyer was lifted from this poster, which was also on display. It’s a vintage 60’s silkscreened poster advertisement for a body shop. I’d place it at 1965-66 if I had to guess. So why was the the show called the Metal Battle? To celebrate they brought out some vintage steel wheeled death traps and had a session. Video after the jump.
Wishful thinking?
Spotted on the side of a Metro West ambulance in Portland, Oregon. If anyone else sees this in the wild, I’d like to post a picture showing placement on the whole ambulance. – Thanks to Josh Burt for the photo.

I can’t remember where I found this, you know, besides tonight when I moved a dresser and found it covered in dust bunnies. It must have been a kids magazine because it has the word “advertisement” at the top of the page. I’m not sure what other type of magazine would find the content confusing. No point in clicking through, unless you need a footnote for your thesis on exactly where cartoon characters, skateboards and food packaging intersect. 25% less fun, 100% more sugar!
Rastamouse
Rastamouse, is a BBC production featuring a detective and/or special agents who fight crime and play in a reggae band. Awesome voices. Visit one of their many web sites if you are in the mood to giggle and annoy your wife. Love it. Looks cool too. Rastamouse is not just a one episode skater, he’s on board for book covers and personal appearances as well. – Thanks to Andrew Mendoza for the tip.
Mountain Dew Rush
We live in a world so extreme that, err… uh, different commercials for different.. planets I guess. It’s been a while since we’ve visited the car-as-skateboard theme, nay, archetype. Nope? Too soon. OK. – Thanks to… I can’t remember. I ‘ve been out of the loop for a while. Hit me up and I’ll add it.
BaCapella to the Future
Singularly the goofiest thing I’ve seen in awhile. I was confused at first, but burst out laughing at the 56 second mark. The thing that really makes it is the voiceover and sound effects are all done by the same guy, multitrack Matt Mulholland. Sit down and watch the birth of the skateboard from the chase scene in Back to the Future, but with an a capella soundtrack. If you dig it, check out his Matrix scene too. Yeah, I watch Glee. – Thanks to Andrew Wahl for the tip.
Undershirts are..
..one syllable a way from underpants, which would make this post even creepier. Some people go on vacation and take pictures of the scenery. MC travelled to NYC on a whirlwind tour of skateparks and Target stores and came back with this.
Friday T&A on S&A: She’s fond of that skateboard.
Arabella is either really fond of that skateboard or this is a scene from a remake of Ghost with Ray Barbee in the Patrick Swayze roll. It’s from the folks at Front magazine who have appeared here before, and in fact seem to have a skateboard fetish in general. A random click on Melissa’s Sexy Roadtrip turned up some Santa Cruz product placement. Actually, there’s skateboards littering that whole website/magazine. Warning – External links NSFW. [Source: Fleshbot] – Thanks to Andrew W for the tip.
Legacy in South Africa
The Maloof Money Cup is leaving permanent skate structures on each stop of their tour. This facility is scheduled to be built in South Africa by California Ramp Works. The mini mega ramp isn’t going to stay, but the vert ramp and street course will remain. Interestingly enough, I recently heard from a contract employee of the Maloof Money Cup that they let a bunch of people go due to an alleged… money shortage. True or not, this is some good news for the South African scene. Between skatepark donations and alternative construction methods, this is like the arms race of arena skatepark extravaganzas.
Friday T&A on S&A: Céline
Céline is French company that makes handbags, pants that look like they came from a 70’s time capsule and other accessories. Nothing says ‘fashion” like an androgynous topless girl and a skateboard. At least she’s healthier than the last model. We are the goon squad and we’re coming to town. Beep Beep! [Source: Fashion Gone Rogue and Piecesofme.]
