Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus on a skateboard, sort of. Even if her boyfriend wasn’t carrying his Penny board, he’d still look like a douche. She’s no poser… two days in a row even. [Source: US Weekly] – Thanks to Mrs Kilwag for the tip.
Bee Radical
Vodaphone bus stop advert with bees on a mini ramp was spotted while site seeing in the UK, by a Yank no less. UK readers, where’s the love? – Thanks to Adam Wallingford for the pics.
Hosoi booked
Which is misleading, because he hasn’t been busted, rather he has a book coming out titled Hosoi: My Life As A Skateboarder Junkie Inmate Pastor which is excerpted on the Huffington Post.(?) – Thanks to Andrew Wahl for the tip
Gap
Spotted at the Gap in Portland. Skateboard as fashion prop, but amusingly, someone stuck a big inventory sticker on the bottom of the board because they didn’t think it would be on display that way. Also funny, sandals on the mannequin. Some guys like Vans, some guys like Nike, others get the best performance from a pair of sandals. – Thanks to Steve B for the photos.
Friday T&A on S&A. This is dumb, not badass.
“Badass skateboarding” from Playboy, which is neither badass or anything other than embarrassing for all parties involved. One girl appears to know how to skate, while the other two have “action” scenes that look like they were shot at speeds approaching 2mph. Entirely safe for work video after the jump, although the domain name may be blacklisted. Highlight of the video is actual vintage equipment. – Thanks to Eric Cherry for the tip.
Jot and the gang on the 9th Commandment
I totally forgot about these cartoons. Trippy animations from the 60’s (ran through the early 80’s) with a religious message, made by the Southern Baptist Radio and Television Commission. Super progressive animation and the subject matter make for an interesting juxtaposition. Here’s part of an episode with a skateboard playing a pivotal role. I don’t remember this from back in the day. I don’t remember any individual episodes of Jot the Dot, actually. I say “part” of an episode because there is an implied ass-beating that isn’t shown, and it ends abruptly. – Thanks to Nick Dawson for the tip.
Insert mellon grab joke
You know, mellon grabs, and also “Wear a helmet to protect you mellon!” As seen somewhere in North Carolina, (Imported from South Carolina!) Apparently the Coosaw Watermellon rides a skateboard and a surfboard. No visuals on the Coosaw Farms web site. No merch or anything. You guys are missing out on… well, OK. Probably only one sale. What is shipping to Oregon?
Rodney Mullen on TED
I have mixed feelings about Rodney Mullen. While I admire his skills, creativity, influence, and longevity immensely, I can’t reconcile that with his stance that you can’t make a high quality competitively priced skateboard in the USA, or hell, North America for that matter. What is TED? An organization that seems to exist only to get interesting people to talk about interesting ideas. What do skateboarding and innovation have in common? More than you might think. A successful entrepreneur and innovator, Rodney Mullen is widely considered the most influential street skater in history, inventing most of the tricks used today. By the time he was 23, Mullen had already set new milestones for skateboarding winning 35 out of 36 freestyle competitions. He studied engineering at the University of Florida before co-founding World Industries, the largest skate company of the 90’s, which was acquired for more than $20m. He continues to skate, innovate, and design some 30 years after he won his first world championship at the age of 11. Mullen spends his spare time thinking about open source communities, hacking the urban terrain, and transforming the mundane into something new. He’ll be featured in the upcoming documentary, “The Bones Brigade:…
Hey, where’s Perry?
From the Phineas and Ferb Facebook page. I swear I’ve seen every episode. They play one every other hour on assorted Disney Channels. Never seen this episode though. A platypus on a rocket powered skateboard. – Thanks to Colin for the tip.
I’m a hater
I made it through 46 seconds. I don’t think this is a joke. I mean, it’s a joke alright, but not intentionally. Enjoy “i’m a Skater” by Mac Jar & Monikape. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip. UPDATE: Comments closed do to too much repetition. Way to offer a different opinion through, uh, mindless repetition. Don’t hate, REPLICATE.
