La La La! I can’t Hear You!
As seen in the Miami Herald: Skateboarder Ryan Sheckler: millionaire and icon at 16. I’m sooooo happy for you. No, really. What’s there to be jealous about, youth, talent, absurd disposable income? At least I have this crappy web site.
Dew The Don’t
TV ratings are down in the Dew Action Sports Tour’s second season, but attendance and sponsorship are up and officials are optimistic. Ok. Not as clever as Do the Dude. Attendance up? That doesn’t mean squat if the ratings are down. Corporate America will pull the plug if you can’t bring home the bacon. They’ve done it before.
Smells Like Teen Marketing
OK. Here we go again. Another site launched trying to target the social networking aspects of MySpace and YouTube directly towards skateboarders. This one goes as far as to have a press release spelling it out. On the surface it makes sense, but the fact that they have a press release in the first place should be a tip off. Smells like teen marketing all right. The title of the press release is “YouTube and Google Video are too Mainstream for Skateboarding Culture” So it’s Mycityskates.com to the rescue right?
Oregon Skatepark Pioneers on TV
Meet some modern-day pioneers who turned Oregon into one of the most well-known skatebarding (sic) destinations in the world. – I’m guessing that means Dreamland interviews? Episode 1803 of an Oregon Public Broadcasting show called Oregon Field Guide will be broadcast Thursday October 19, 2006. It repeats at 2:30am and 6:30pm on Sunday. What is skateBARDing? UPDATE: Watch it here.
Tuxedo Touches Give Skinny Jeans a Fresh Spin (?)
Yeah, I don’t know what the hell that means either, but it’s a direct quote from the November issue of Teen Vogue, which has a crush on skateboarders. They’re so dreamy, you know?
Skate News Roundup: October Week 2
Man this is tedious. There are a few good one though, such as Islam-Online.net taking notice of the skate-church movement. Does anyone care about these types of posts? Am I wasting my time? Let me know please.
Local Newspaper Prints Embarrassing Bail Shots, Kids to get Disappointing Lesson in City Bureaucracy.
Hey Jake, your pictures in the paper! It’s a bad bail shot, oh snap! Photo Editor: Oooh, this is a good shot. There’s lots of action and excitement and good composition. Let’s use this one. OK. Moving on. Nothing conveys the excitement of skateboarding better than an article titled “Supervisors Rethinking Skate Park”! Who are these supervisors and what are they thinking?
Halfpipe Honeyz??
I’ve looked at the website (www.halfpipehoneyz.com) but I still can’t figure out what it is or why. It appears to be a site for slutty models who can be booked for events. But it also has skatepark reviews. The latest one gives the Cocoa Beach, Florida park 4 out of 5 stars, and it’s obvioulsy written by a skater. WTF? They even have merchandise (including yoga pants, seen after the jump) and stickers. Anyone have the lowdown on this?
Danny Way to Kick Tony Hawk’s Ass?
Retarded UK video game magazine Edge declares Danny Way better than Tony Hawk. Well, at least it does in a short magazine graphic. The article is about an upcoming Danny Way video game called “Skate” which is also supposed to be Better than Tony Hawk.
Dogtown Era Over? Duh!
Ah the good old days. Remember that time when Heath Ledger threw all those surf boards at a young Tony Alva? It makes me want to move into a condo. Fortunately, the landlord of the locally famous building that housed the Zephyr Surf shop wants to see it developed into a mixed use facility; Strip malls and condos for everyone! Predictably, Jay Adams (ne De Mornay) mother Rebecca is leading a pack of whiny hippies that say the building is the heart and sole of Santa Monica. Yeah, and so is Huey Lewis when it comes to rock and roll.
