Milwaukee, Wisconsin locals who aren’t content to wait for the Turf to be dug up again or settle for facilities like the one you see above (no joke!) have taken things into their own hands. RideMKE is a non-profit organization committed to establishing sustainable concrete parks in Milwaukee. (MKE is the airport code for Milwaukee’s Mitchell International Airport.) The first item on the agenda is to clean up and improve the abortion that is Estabrook park, but the ultimate goal is to spread concrete to new locations. It’s almost like a franchise. Woodward Camps are popping up everywhere, like this one in Tahoe that opens on June 9th. Action Sports alone can’t pay the bills, they long been offering video and photo camps, which makes sense with all that action around, you might as well charge kids to learn how to shoot it. And there’s also… cheerleading camps? I guess it was that or one big adolescent sausage fest.

Spohn Ranch is giving a facelift to a lowlyconcrete slab in Ft. Duchesne, Utah to make a plaza style skatepark for the Ute Indian Tribe. The tribe has 617 people, each human being gets 10.53 square feet of skate able terrain at the end of the deal. You do the math, or look at the pictures on Flickr.

It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as John Henry, but the song that was the Peach Orchard met it’s demise courtesy of the Norfolk Southern railway, the property owners. Björn Holm of Finland made a surfboard out of recycled skateboards. It’s the shell only so it’s probably not as heavy as it looks. I cracked up after watching the video, it’s almost like a SNL Digital Short. Rip City Skates (Santa Monica, California) commercial introducing the new Raymond Pettibon skateboard designs for 1984. The decks featured classic Pettibon illustrations and Black Flag iconography. So “commercial” implies that it was on television at some point, my guess is cable access at best, but still rad. I would have lost control if I had seen this on air back in the day. Lost my mind.
