patrujo's photos

I went to art school and all I got was Patrujo envy.

Let this be a lesson to you all! Don’t leave a comment unless you are prepared for us to link to your bitchin’ art. Check out Patrujo’s photos on Flickr. There is a skateboard category, of course, which is my excuse for linking to the larger body with some of his more interesting work. Most of it has a humorous element present, and you know how we like a sense of humor over here. It’s guys like this that make me feel like a dick when I look at the stuff I post. Patrujo, I’d like to host a guest gallery of your skateboarding shots on Skate and Annoy if you are up for it. Others have accepted the same offer before, but they never seem to follow through. Come on skate photogs, let’s get some guest galleries happening. Don’t forget to check out Patrujo’s photos.

Santa Cruz Skatepark

My Beach. My Wave.

Yeah, I’ll take any excuse to get in a good Surf Punks reference. The City of Santa Cruz has a brand new skatepark ready to open on February 22nd. As part of the public art provision of the Parks Board, the full pipe was designed to look like a wave. Making a required public art portion of a skatepark actually skateable has been done before. It’s a great idea. everyone should do it. Links and more pics of Mike Fox park after the jump. [Photos: Wormhoudt – Source: Sleestak]

Grovers Video Korner #11: Little D

Hey loyal viewers here is a video of little D. I came about this footage via Justin when he didn’t have his own shop. Its that old. Derek gave it to me for a sponsor me video. Well, he is older, wiser and better now. So sponsor him. Derek is an all around good guy, if you need any tile work done, I believe he is a professional tile setter, and a hella good skater. So here is your video “d” 3 years later enjoy. Peace

Speed Freaks – Santa Cruz – 1989

Speed Freaks from Santa Cruz Speed Wheels, circa 1989. This was the first video ever made by a wheel company. It gave Santa Cruz the ability to bring skateboarders from different board companies, and put them on their videos. This makes the video that much better, with a great mix of street and vert skating. Santa Cruz also put out Streets On Fire in 1989, which featured some of the best skating to date, especially Natas Kaupas’ groundbreaking part. More about the 80s and skateboarding after the jump.

Public meetings about the next two Portland, Oregon skateparks

The process has begun on the next two Ed Benedict Park in southeast and Gabriel Park in Southwest. If you live in any of the neighborhoods listed or nearby either of these parks you might want to attend these neighborhood meetings. The current plan for Ed Benedict’s 8000 square feet is 70% street, 30% transition. Some guys are working hard to get a plaza-style setup there. It would be worth it for vert skaters to participate to make sure the tranny component gets done right. There will only be 2400 sq ft for tranny but it should be something neighborhood vert skaters can use. The balance at Gabriel park will be weighted more toward transition and there has been talk of a snake run. Read on for details

J. Grant Brittain blog

click to see full image Must be weird to show up for a session at the local skatepark if you are Tony Hawk. This is from JGB’s blog at The Skateboard Mag. He says he took this the last week in January. Classic trick executed as well as anybody could. Great shot.

Cell Phone action

This Royce Nelson cell phone photo by Tony Farmer comes to us courtesy of Davoud at Concussion Magazine. A couple years ago I got the idea to do a print zine made entirely of cell phone photos. Like many things on my plate, I haven’t gotten around to it. I’m guessing someone else has done it by now. If not, I am immediately accepting submissions for Does/Does Not Cause Cancer.
