Are you talking to me?

I found this image on one of those aggregator sites, or rather I should say I ffffound it. I can’t tell you anything about it because it the original source appears to be a tumblr site and nobody seems to be able to figure out how to link to individual items. 70’s vintage for sure, but it looks odd. Is it a powerslide, curb drop or a photoshop job?

There’s real fake and fake fake

Somewhere in middle America a security guard accosts a skateboarder. Pittsburgh, according to the video. I don’t know where the law stands on security guards confiscating personal property. I predict nothing will come of this though. A reprimand possibly. That’s it. I actually didn’t watch it with the sound on, so I’ll let the peanut gallery weigh in. It’s important to note that we didn’t get to se what happened beforehand, not that it’s that important in all likelihood. Instead, lets talks about KENNY POWERS!!!!!!!!!!! I’m stoked that Eastbound and Down got picked up for a second season. I just found out about it last night before the True Blood kick off. Danny McBride is a funny mofo, Kenny Powers may well be the thing he is remembered for. This segment called Learning to Skateboard looks kind of old and isn’t his best work, but it has it’s moments and a little bit of an embryonic Kenny Powers. Don’t forget to be outraged by the security guard. There’s a pretty funny segment in Observe and Report where the security guards go off on skateboarders. Again, i wanted to be outraged, but I’d rather laugh.

Banned from Walk of fame

Not skateboards, (or maybe they already are) but guys dressed in costumes are not allowed to hang out on the walk of fame in Hollywood. It seems some of the characters were a little overzealous in demanding compensation for being used as photo prop, which doesn’t concern any of us, except for the fact that this photo of an Elvis impersonator riding a skateboard appeared to illustrate the story on Perez Hilton.

– Thanks to Mrs Kilwag for the tip.

My dog ate my post

I don’t have anything else for you today. Yesterday the sewer pipe backed up into my basement. Fun!!!!!!! So I spent last night cleaning up fecal matter instead of writing posts. I just happened to have the Factory Made in can and ready to go. I’m pretty sure that the people who sent these items in to Skate and Annoy didn’t envision poop in their viral marketing plans. I got the special edition of the Bones Brigade Video Show, complete with a bitching magic motion lenticular print on the cover and some swag in the form of a nice Cab shirt and some stickers. My first real board was a red Cabellero of the 1984 vintage. Thanks to Skate One. Also in the mailbox, some funky looking PiiQ headphones from Sony. They’ve got another pair of Qlasp headphones for one of our readers. Leave a comment on this post and I’ll pick one at random to win them, shipped directly from the marketing agency, which means you won’t have to wait an obscene amount of time to get them.

How skateboards are still made.

Here’s another “How skateboards are made” segment. Youd think I’d be sick of them, but I’m not. Keep making them, I’ll keep watching them, because everybody seems to do it slightly differently, and every editor and/or industry head choses to leave out certain certain bits. This is (at least) the second such program filmed at Powell facilities. They were featured on “Made in America” a handful of years ago. I have that one archived on tape, I guess I should have put that one up first. Points of interest here: Are they really cutting out by hand and not using CNC machines? That would be hard to believe, especially when it looks like their molds were machined out of aluminum. The voiceover is comical at times, talking about colorful inks that also “protect” the skateboard. It’s amusing when they make it seem like the wheels for a specific batch of skateboards are simultaneously being poured while the boards are setting up. This show is called Factory Made, and it was on the Discovery network. Those guys love these manufacturing shows.

Tony Hawk for Flip

Flip Video, that is. It’s short. You will only waste 20 seconds of your life. I don’t know what Cisco has to do with the camera, but someone at their ad agency must like skateboarding.
