Windells bowl

OSS Windell’s party

Windell’s Snowboard Camp has evolved over the years. They had a bunch of outdoor ramps including a crazy spine bowl and various street and mini combinations, then they built a crazy indoor bowl setup and then later the indoor Bobcomplex with a 75 foot miniramp. The latest and greatest seems to be concrete. Old School Skateboarding had a party there last Sunday.

OSS party at Windells

OSS party at Windells

The folks over at Old School Skateboarding are having their second annual private skate bash at Windells on October 14th. They’ve rented the whole place out for five hours. You can check out the facilities, but make sure you contact OSS for details. Kids get in at a discount, and it’s a better alternative to this.

NikeSB-NBTT

…and the hype, and the sales message oh, and skateboarding.

Nike Skateboarding Nothing but the Truth Premiere The NikeSB movie has been premiering in various cities, I attended the Portland premiere last Thursday at the Crystal ballroom. Everyone there was either invited or one of Screamin’ Steve’s contest winners. I’m guessing there were 200-300 people there. I wasn’t a VIP so I didn’t get free beer but I did enjoy the outing. It was a big skateboarding related event, a scene, and I saw a bunch of people I knew there. Thanks to Kevin Imamura for getting me on the list.

Hide-n-Skate Ramp

Hide-n-Skate Ramp is truly hidden, from everyone

Canada’s Much Music had an event on Go Skateboarding Day that featured something called the Hide-n-Skate Ramp. It’s not super ground breaking, but it’s still pretty cool, so you’d think you could find a few pictures of this ramp being set up, in transit or at the very least, being skated, but no, there doesn’t appear to be anything anywhere on the web. WTF? I wonder if the Much Music channel actually plays music videos, unlike any of the MTV channels. Coincidentally, I also recently stumbled across plans for a mini ramp that folds up into a shed(!?) on RampPlans.org. Michael Cheah’s got seven pages of instructions and photos, but amazingly, not one picture of the damn thing folded up into a shed. As weird an pointless as that sounds, I want to see it. Come on people, let’s follow through on the obvious! You could all use some pointers on documentation from Tracy Sigler.

Vox Premier at Tubbs benefit tonight

Vox Premier at Tubbs benefit tonight

As if there isn’t enough going on in Portland this weekend. There’s the Rocco Docco(umentary), the Cording/Frisone affair and also the Michael Tubb’s Benefit where aside from helping a brother out, you can catch the premier of the new Vox video, Black & Blue Volume 2. Someone should start a calendar so people can schedule these events without conflict. Someone. Hmmmm…. Who should that someone be?

Tubbs benefit

Tubbs benefit

Is there anyway you guys could post some info about the Michael Tubb’s benefit being held on Friday Oct. 5 in Portland, OR. Trying to make some money for Tubb’s hospital bills due to head trauma from a skating accident. I’m sure you have heard the news, if not check out his recovery site – mtubbs.com. Tubb’s is from Tempe AZ, but has lived up in Portland for the last 2 summers. I would be really stoked if you guys helped to pass this benefit info along. But of course! Tubb’s benefit art, and skate silent auction Oct. 5 @ the Chesterfield, in Portland, OR 1111 E. Burnside

ASR with OMA

ASR with OMA

The Old Man Army crew decided to take off for a weekend to go down to San Diego to see what all of the hoopla was about at the ASR show. They wanted to meet in person a few of the people in the industry that they have dealings with. The only other thing on their agenda was to get a couple of pictures of the kooky skateboard gadgets for the Skate and Annoy. Check out: 2007 ASR with OMA

Olympics no go

Skateboarding unlikely in the 2012 Olympics

Transworld Skateboarding reports (See how I gave you guys credit there? It doesn’t even hurt.) that skateboarding will likely not make it into the 2012 Olympics. The got it from a subscription only web site about the business of the Olympics called Around the Rings. Plans to bring skateboarding to the program for the 2012 Olympics are headed for a crash landing, sources tell Around the Rings… …As part of a play to make maximum use of the BMX half pipe track, UCI was also willing to consider bringing skateboarding into the federation for a double-barreled shot at attracting younger sports fans for the Olympics. UCI sports director Olivier Queguiner, who met recently with IOC officials to discuss the situation, now tells Around the Rings that the “no decision about skateboard” will take place during the UCI Congress in Stuttgart later this month. A vote of the UCI Congress is a must to bring a new discipline into the sport of cycling. Failure to act this year effectively kills the chance of adding skateboarding to London. Around the Rings also claims that most pro skateboarders would rather have street skating in the Olympics instead of a vert event, I’m guessing…
