The Abominable Dr Sportlife Vibes
Sportlife Vibes is not the name of an adult film, but rather some European, possibly Dutch gum and or mint. There’s a TV commercial and a web site. I have no idea what they are saying. Maybe Sportlife Phibes is the name of the unfinished Dr Phibes sequel. All hail Vincent Price. UPDATE: English version of a commercial after the jump. – Thanks to Matthijs for the tip.
New Bailgun and Born Ugly
Two B-zines on the A-list. Born Ugly hits issue 7. Iove this zine/scene. too much metal for my personal tastes but the fun is so pervasive that I’m ready to roll with it, if not Rawk and Roll with it. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the globe, Bailgun hits issue #11, and it’s a phucking phat 114 pages. Definitely not your average slapped together affair, although you’ll need to get your German on to read some of it. If you can’t score a print issue, both of these are available for reading online.
Architects design skatepark that isn’t street plaza
Not entirely true. There’s supposed to be a street plaza and (shudder to think) vert ramp too, but it looks like the only part that isn’t just a CAD file at this point in time is this bowl complex. Germany’s MBA/S Associates designed this park that resides in Stuttgart. They even feature it on the front page of their web site. [Source: Freshness] – Thanks to Ryan for the tip
Swedish meatballs
Brought to you by Bryggeriets Gymnasium, Mini-Giftorm seems to be an online ‘zine. Some english but mostly swedish. Some cool shots. Can anybody translate?
SOTW 5-24-10: Sicily
This week’s Shot of the Week is from Helmut at Surfside-Boardshop in Palermo, Italy. His friend Alessandro wrote: In Sicily the guys have discovered a huge estate seized to an arrested mafia boss, the fact is that this estate has got something in between a ditch and a pool, and they step in there to skate it, i find this very rad, the action is not out of danger, it could actually always come some affiliates to get them under stress, or maybe no, this nobody knows, the cool thing is that the place is quite hidden so is not easy to find… It’s vaguely reminiscent of the Tea Bowls. Check out the Shot of the Week then see some extras after the jump.
Bobsled track downhill
I’ve often wondered what it would be like to ride a skateboard on a bobsled track. I always assumed it would be too fast to contain it, but that was before I contemplated what the surface was. Danny Strasser doesn’t have to wonder. He’s hit a bunch of tracks all over Europe. I wonder if these are sanctioned runs or barge sessions. I imagine after recent sad events these tracks might be harder and harder to get onto with four wheels. – Thanks to Jesus Crust for the tip.

Snow palace skatepark?
I don’t think California’s Epic Indoor Park lasted a year. This one is in Marseille, France. It’s huuuuuuuuuge. The halfpipe alone is looks formidable. Check out the Palais de la Glisse on the Constructo blog of skatepark architecture. They have some public official looking types at the ribbon cutting ceremony, this might even be a public skatepark. The building looks beautiful, and not just some dusty old warehouse. Actually, it’s truly confusing now. If you scroll through this set of photos, it appears to be built on the site of a hockey rink. Could this in fact be a temporary installation? – Thanks to Doc Murdock for the tip.
Don’t tread on me
There was some brouhaha about virtual reality skating on the Viet Nam Veteran’s memorial in Tony Hawks Project 8. I can’t be sure about reactions to skating on the monument to fallen defenders in what the locals call the Homeland War in Croatia. Of course, it’s a different kind of memorial. The Wall is more like a giant tombstone, while this one is more of an undefined usable public space. I mean, you wouldn’t get mad at that little kid for laying on it, so skating on it isn’t that far of a stretch. Reminds me of a monument to capitalism in Michigan. More pictures at Big Creative Industries. – Thanks to Urban for the tip.
Greece is the Word
We’ve covered this before, but there are better pictures this time at ArchDaily. – Thanks to Boy at Skatemalaysia.com for the tip.
