Burnside construction session Tuesday

Grover says they’ll be working on adding a new capsule to Burnside on Tuesday. That’s a pretty major facelift. There’s few GVK shots after the jump.

Notre Dame de L’ile Perrot Part 2

Kevin Cann has been spearheading an effort to expand a small skatepark in a town called Notre Dame de L’ile Perrot, a small town outside of Montreal, Quebec. It started off as a DIY-esque park with the blessing and financial aid of the town, thanks in part to Kevin’s hard work and some open minds in city hall. I had forgotten to put this story up, actually, but I’m going to do this part first. The backstory will come later. Here’s the bottom line, the first stage of the park was a success (see picture here) and Kevin used that momentum and good will to add a proper bowl to the jersey barrier foundation the park already has. Pictures after the jump, thanks to Kevin.

Brooklyn Street is broke

But man, the results so far look great. There’s a benefit show on October 14th covering a wide range in the musical spectrum. Flyer and bigger pic after the jump.

Excitable boy

I got so excited that I had time to finish the last of the boards on Monday that I exposed the screen backwards, so I had to stick some risers in and mount it upside down. I spent too much time last night editing Egbert’s photos from his road trip, and so there is no real content on S&A today.

Brooklyn Street

I’m freely admitting to filling space here. Some of the things purchased with recent fundraising efforst include sand, gravel a generator, and of course concrete. They’ve got a plan. Make one of these in your neighborhood.

Brooklyn Street progress

Status report. The pedestrian bridge in the background is slated for removal. Something to do with a new bridge going up somewhere nearby tied into mass transit expansion. I’m not sure why you have to tear one down to build another one somewhere else, but it works out to our favor. Tearing down the bridge somehow equates to nobody caring what happens there. It’s kind of a no-mans land, not really owned by anyone. If the park doesn’t interfere with bridge demolition then Trimet is cool with it. Heck, the construction company in charge has indicated an interest in donating some concrete. Pretty much the only speed bump left is getting the spot added under the neighborhood development committee’s insurance. I guess since the property isn’t Portland Parks, it’s not covered like the rest of the skateparks. Great story so far. We’ll keep you posted on any progress. In the mean time, enjoy this Merde (Sponsor Luv!) footage from last week’s benefit. That still looks familiar.

Matt’s Bowl additions

You may have seen a post or two about fundraisers for Matt’s Bowl in Grant’s Pass, Oregon. Well here’s a look at what he did with some of that dough. – Thanks to Larry Martin for the pics.

B.S.S.S.S

It stands for Brooklyn Street Skate Spot Shots, what else? Super funs spot. Easy to ride, but the tech guys can get all techy if they want. There is no drama with opposing build crews, just a miscommunication is all. On Saturday they raised over $150 bucks. I’m lobbying for a runway on the other side of the volcano so goofy footers can hit it frontside easier. Fun for all ages. Way to go guys.

Back in business

I usually frown on taking care of personal business in public on this web site (I’m looking at you Neil!) but hey, it is my site after all, and I’m excited to be back in the business of screenprinting skateboards.

Platypus and Cachagua Land

Zarosh Eggleston is busy building his own little skatopia called Cachagua Land on hill top in California. Helping to fund it along the way, hand screened Platipuss skateboards from the multitalented artist himself. I saw this DIY concrete extravaganza in a video before. I can’t recall what it was in though, maybe Strange Notes? Spend some time trolling around Platipuss (sic), there’s a lot of interesting goings on going on over there. Zarosh accepts donations for concrete.A big enough donation will net you a limited edition t-shirt or deck. Of course you can buy one one of the others outright too. Check out his screen rig up top. I’d love to pick his brain on that. That, and why he strayed from the traditional spelling of Platypus. – Thanks to Eric Shea for the tip.
