Park Hill Skates in Denver, Colorado is sponsoring a high jump contest. Of course, it’s cool to call it “hippy jump” now, but come on skateboarders, if you really valued your hipster irony you’d be throwing a barrel jump contest.

The live stream from the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ in Wellington, NZ starts Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. PST and goes to 9 p.m. PST. There’s an embed of the live stream after the jump. I’m sure there will be commercials and whatnot, but hopefully it works. I heard last year’s was pretty good.

The backwards truck phenomenon happens all the time when marketers attempt to use skateboards without consulting an actual skateboarder. How did it apparently happen to Rob Dyrdek’s Street League Skateboarding, an organization dedicated to presenting “real” skateboarding? You know he must have been bummed the moment he realized it. The reflective nature of the trophy makes it hard to see definitively, but it sure looks like it’s backwards, Randals notwithstanding. Because we’re not all sour grapes here, there’s a bunch of well done photos of the latest Street League contest. Nyjah Huston is the champ, in case you wanted some actual results. The days of the three event Oregon stop on the World Cup tour appear to be over. We’re holding steady at one official event again. This time at Pier Park on Saturday, with unofficial events in Lincoln City on Friday and Portland on Sunday. Saturday will also be a fundraiser of some sort for repairs at Pier Park, thanks to some dingholes who burned a couch in the bowl. Fundraising details are fuzzy, but the schedule of events are up on the web site.

Weirdo Skateboards presents Skate the Lake 2012 LCRSP – Lake Cunningham Regional Skatepark, and WEIRDO Skateboards continue to “Come In Hot” this Summer, when our yearly Skate The Lake Contest Series, hits Part 2 for yet another day of summer madness. WHEN: The Second and Final Date is Saturday August 11th: WHY: Because we have lost our collective minds, ha ha just kidding. We will be hitting up the Full Pipe in all it’s glory for an Open Contest, also a good old fashioned Highest in Pipe, topped off with a Best Trick in the Cradle/Funnel Bowl.

The Maloof Money Cup is leaving permanent skate structures on each stop of their tour. This facility is scheduled to be built in South Africa by California Ramp Works. The mini mega ramp isn’t going to stay, but the vert ramp and street course will remain. Interestingly enough, I recently heard from a contract employee of the Maloof Money Cup that they let a bunch of people go due to an alleged… money shortage. True or not, this is some good news for the South African scene. Between skatepark donations and alternative construction methods, this is like the arms race of arena skatepark extravaganzas.

It may not be portable, reusable,or around anymore, but it looks fun. 50-50.com has a gallery of the park and a few action shots too.

We stopped by to check out Spohn Ranch’s modular bowl being assembled for the Dew Tour. It’s pretty impressive. Up close the individual sections don’t appear as massive or thick as you might think. There were a couple local faces in the crew which was nice to see. Word is that a Wally Holiday crew is coming in to do the finishing. Grover was ribbing the crew because some of the sections were out of numerical order, judging by the big numbers scrawled on the back. One interesting thing, the parking lot is sloping, so the whole structure is being erected on scaffolding with a giant corrugated metal subfloor. Check out the pictures after the jump.
