Seattle’s SeaSk8 has history, and a blog

I don’t know who is running this, but Seattle’s newest incarnation of SeaSk8 has a blog. There’s not much up there right now as it’s only been active for a handful of days. At the risk of infuriating Bobcat, go check it out. However, if you want to get on his good side, check out his rambling alcohol fueled history of SeaSk8 after the jump.

Kona snake run

This is Jeff Stevens hitting the slalom portion of the iconic Kona skatepark. Damn, I wish we had one of those things around here. I know it’s not the most efficient use of concrete, dollar for dollar as far as skateparks go, but it sure looks like a lot of fun. Enlarge-o-rama and bonus. Oh hey, he’s wearing a Kona Kanoa flyaway at Kona….

Nssh Spinal Tap skateboard.

Spinal Tap from Nash

A reader named Laura sent in these pics. It’s the Spinal Tap model from Nash, but unfortunately it has nothing to do with Spinal Tap, the band. This is from their “Gold Line,” which I never really know existed. Thier run of the mill crap boards were the Red Line. This one does ring a bell after all, I think Nash made a last ditch effort to get back into the arena of almost real skateboards very late in the game, similar to what Variflex did. The graphic is leagues above the quality of their usual artwork. It’s not too bad for the time, but the real story is probably that Space Invaders video game cabinet in the background. Laura wondered what this board might be worth, not much is the answer. 80’s era Nash boards don’t typically raise more than it costs to ship them.

80's skate bag tribute/bootleg

Tribute = Bootleg

R.E.load Bags had a line of messenger bags called the 80’s skate series that was essentially bootlegs of famous skateboard graphics. The product description had said they were a tribute, but the “Hammerhead” bag is pretty much the only one that wouldn’t be considered copyright infringement. Fortunately, a friend of Neil Blender’s saw them and tipped him off. The bags were removed from the web site almost immediately. They look totally cool, they should have licensed them instead of just ripping them off. [Source: Freakbeatfuzz]

Pssst. Hey buddy!

Wanna see the motherload of old Powell stickers? Check out Rohan James’ Powell Peralta sticker flickr set (say it three times fast…) for 193 Powell stickers. That’s almost as many Powell stickers as I have in my entire collection of skate stickers.

The Challengers Go Sidewalk Surfing

The Challengers Go Sidewalk Surfing

I saw this album cover over at the exotic blog of Kahuna Kawentzmann. According to Hodad Heaven, it’s a re-issue that dates back to the 80’s. The original release was credited to the Good Guys. The Good Guys release has a different track listing from the Challengers. You can download MP3’s for a price from Amazon, or free from other places… (Hodad, Ahem.) For some reason the 80’s rerelease is collectable, New copies ago from $49 – $112, and remember this is a CD rerelease! The original LP was up as a vinyl rip for a time, but it’s been archived. You can pick up a copy of the Good Guys version on vinyl via eBay. Right now there is one listed at $25. Check out the cover! You gotta love the original Roller Derby board used as an exclamation point. The back has what may be the first ever monkey on a skateboard too.

Baby Paul Cullen (1962-2009)

He was the Z-Boy that had the smallest amount of screen time in the documentary, and he was also the youngest one, hence the name “Baby.” Paul Cullen passed away on the 23rd last week. Cause of death has not been officially made known, but there has been some obvious speculation due to a history of substance abuse. His memorial was open to the public this past Saturday. The image above is from Glen E. Friedman, who recommends you check out Paul’s section on the official Z-Boys page. Yo Venice has more recent pictures of Paul.
