Takeshi Hosaka Architects

To me, no matter how cool (or skateable) this house looks on the inside, I would not be able to get over the wasted space and awkward appearance from the street. Takeshi Hosaka Architects. [Source; Dezeen] – Thanks to MC for the tip.

Epic Veggie Slam

More fun with fingerboard trucks! These images are from Benoit Jammes series titled Skitchen. Some are pretty pedestrian, but a few of them are subtly clever. [Source: Design Boom] – Thanks to MC for the tip.

Squirrely Style

I got really excited about what I thought was a squirrel on a skateboard that I spotted at Mimosa Studios, but then it turned out to be two separate, unrelated items. After seeing them together, I didn’t want one without the other. Unfortunately, unfinished ceramics are way more expensive than I thought they would be. It turns out this is the 5th post on ceramic skateboards that I’ve done.

Disposable, yet Indispensable

Disposable, the definitive book on the skateboard graphics is about to be released 10 years after it’s original print date. There is no difference in this edition from the previous edition, but this also marks the first time the book has been in print for 4 years. How do you celebrate this? Well you could buy the book (everyone should have it), or you can buy the Disposable Nike Dunk Disposable shoe. If pre-Hosoimas commercialism has got you down, you can read this Chris Nieratko interview with Sean Cliver on Vice. I’d send you over to Cliver’s blog, but it looks like he hasn’t updated it in a couple of years. He’s active on Twitter though.

Adobe / Girls Skateboards

Adobe Girl

Adobe and Girl Skateboards have teamed up for a contest of sorts. Enter your skateboard designs and you could win one of 4 internships at Girl. 2 of them are on site, 2 are remote. To Adobe’s credit, winners also receive $500 (total) for their designs. To enter, you must be a student, and you must use Adobe Creative Cloud in the design process. Then you have to post your work on Adobe’s Behance network with some poorly chosen tags, #madethis and #girl. Make sure you search for both tags, as the singular tag #girl leads to some NSFW content. Contest ends October 13 for the US and October 20 for international students. Details at Adobe.

Help Ron Cameron

That’s Ron Cameron looking unhappy in that picture, having recently found himself unexpectedly more or less homeless and looking for a place to store his archive of art, including everything from his Blockhead days. He’s got a campaign on Go Fund Me to get him get on his feet again, and most immediately keep his historic collection from being set out on the curb for the garbage collectors. It’s not strictly charity, there are some cool incentives you can essentially buy with your donations, so check it out. Meabwhile, he’s in cahoots with Dave Bergthold in the planning stages of relaunching Blockhead. Meanwhile, Dave has his own surprises, but more on that later. If you’re in LA on August 22nd, check out his DJ gig at Amoeba Records.

Bondi Perspectives

Illustrator Russell Tate has made some mostly functional art boards as part of the Bondi Perspectives exhibition happening not 200 yards from the skatepark. I say “mostly” functional because the ones with steel wheels are mostly just beautiful to look at. The theme of the free show is a Local’s view of Iconic Bondi Beach and it’s place in Australian culture. Check it out at the Bondi Pavilion Gallery September 25th – October 5th.

On the board of the museum

You say you’ve always wanted a skateboard in the shape of the New Museum in New York? Well your long wait is over, because Chapman Skateboards is producing a limited run of 150 of these boxy decks to be sold in the museum gift shop. They kind of look like a pixelated version of the old Skull Skates mutant. If you watch the video, you can see the deck is cruiser sized. Chapman decks are made in the USA, don’t cha know… I didn’t, actually. It’s probably an exciting collaboration for Chapman, but it’s a little hard to get excited about the deck shape if you’re not connected with the museum in some way, as a fan or a neighbor. I suppose you could use it to impress people without lying. “You know, I’m currently on the board of a museum in New York, they wanted me to buy it.” [Source: DesignBoom] – Thanks to MC for the tip.
