Chop Socky Chooks (???)
Jack in the Box always has the lamest toys in their kid’s meals. Case in point, this Cartoon Network cross promotion for the show Chop Socky Chooks.I had no idea what Chop Socky meant, so I googled it. Crappy martial arts bar fights was the result. I think these are supposed to be Kung Fu Chickens. They battle the evil Dr Wasabi. I’ve never seen it, but these toys are weak. They are actually a step up for Jack in the Box kids meal toys, which are ore apt to be a plastic display stand for some nature facts collecting cards, or something equally as uninteresting to a kid. I saw them earlier this summer on the way to the Oregon Trifecta in Lincoln City. That’s KO Joe on the skateboard. I don’t know if he rides one on the show or not.
the iJoy of Stowboarding
We’ve covered both the iJoy cross training board and Stowboard before, but our readers pointed out some new videos from both camps that are amusing. First up, the iJoy board is being marketed as both an exercise machine and an training device for board sports. It features workout settings with great names, such as “Taking It Easy,” (not to be confused with the Dethklok side project “Takin’ it easy!”) “Getting Serious” and “Pump it Up!” The closeups of the iJoy board in action are bizarre and disturbing. Check it out. Next up is the Stowboard in action. There’s cruising with the Stowboard, but more importantly, “with practice tricks are possible.” Check it out. And speaking of Dethklok, you can watch Murderface and Toki pitching their song Takin’ It Easy to Dethklok after the jump. – Thanks to Benny Bones and Dave Arpin for the tip.
Mega Blocks WorldWorld set
PBS Kids airs an educational program called WordWorld. It’s pretty crappy looking as far as animation goes, but it does seem to do a good job of teaching kids the basics of spelling and phonetics. You might think a show trying to teach kids how to spell would be, you know, spelled correctly, but that’s not the case with WordWorld. All the characters and most of the props are made out of letters. When they have challenges or adventures, the characters have to collect and place letters together to physically make the items they need to overcome their obstacles. WordWorld’s opening sequence has a brief bit where a bear rides a skateboard. The bear is a regular, but the skateboard isn’t a constant companion. In fact, I’ve only seen one episode where the bear rides the skateboard outside of the opening sequence. Why do I know so much? I’m not developmentally delayed (much), but I do have three year old kid. As with any vaguely popular TV show aimed at children, WordWorld has merchandising.
Buddy Bears
Giant box. Small portion. What else would you expect from a movie theater concession stand. This particular box of gummi bears is several years old, but probably still as fresh as the day it was bought. Engorge or enlarge? Check out the parallel stance on that fat bear. It looks like he’s riding a Techni-Ski. What’s with the target on his shirt?
Oregon: Capital of skateboarding (for dogs)
Sherwood, Oregon is about to get “Oregon’s first sporting goods store for dogs.” Err… Does that mean other states already have sporting goods stores for dogs? Aren’t those just called Pet Smart? I guess not. They sell obstacle course setups and skijoring equipment too, but probably not skateboards. To show they are serious, they’ve hired Tilman the skateboarding Bulldog to appear at the grand opening November 1-2. Hold on, who is this Tilman? What happened to Tyson the skateboarding bulldog? I guess Tilman is doing a good job of riding on the coattails of Tyson. Tilman’s last appearance reportedly drew a crowd of 12,000 (?) people. Come on. that’s go to be a typo. People probably thought they were going to see Tyson anyway. I wonder whose dog was named first. They sound too simialr to be a coincidence.
Stumptown skaters
Local Portland coffee roaster and media darlings Stumptown Coffee had an advert in the October 23rd issue of the Portland Mercury. Make a note of the location of the appendage holding the letter “T”. Stumptown is the coffee of choice in the tattooed crowd of Portland. When is Pabst going to get on the ball and shoot an advert at Burnside? They already runs ads with local bands. Donate that fee to the park. Larger after the jump.
Singapore’s Lantern festival and Hello Kitty skating
Singapore has something called the Chinese Garden Lantern Festival. This year’s festival had a large Hello Kitty presence, including Hello Kitty and friends riding skateboards. These pictures are from SingaporeSights.com. There’s a couple more after the jump from a forgotten source. If you find any more shots, drop a link in the comments. – Thanks to Jeff Hottle for the tip.
Go Stix!
Hippie dippie tea company Celestial Seasonings is getting in the Extreme!™ kids marketing game with these drink mixes called Go Stix. Sure, they have extra vitamins, and half the sugar of competing products, but they are still meant to be poured into convenience store bottled water, which doesn’t seem “all good” as far as mother earth goes. Hey! What do you call a prehistoric monster that is asleep? Find out after the jump.
I want candy (in a skateboard)
I’ll use any excuse to pst a picture of Annabella Lwin, including colored sugar balls stuffed inside a hollow plastic skateboard. There are at least two versions available, the invert espousing “Loose Bearingz” and the more succinct “Rad.” Pics and bonus vid of Bow Wow Wow’s version of “I want Candy” after the jump.
Old Fashioned Olde Tyme Fun!
Suejay makes custom sculpted animal figures, including this model of Tyson the skateboarding bulldog. She’s got a video slide show of the construction (sort of) that is kind of amusing. It must have something to do with the jaunty old tyme music and the lump of clay that miraculously changes from a white turd into a fully formed mini Tyson. Maybe I’ll commission a miniature Grover figure, he’s kind of an animal…
