The lean, quick, responsive Midget.
It’s been 7 years since I posted the last MG auto advert from 1977. In 1978 it seemed like they couldn’t get enough of the high jump over a car concept. At least part of the photo shoot for this ad took place in the crazy mogul field at Carlsbad skatepark shown on the right.
Swooping on a skateboard, skimming on a surfboard, soaring down powder on skis: these are the sensations that compare to driving the lean, quick, responsive Midget.
Here’s a closeup of the tank traps at Carlsbad. This image appears pretty small in this ad, but if you follow the Carlsbad link you can see the same shot was also used in an ad with a different layout.
OK skate historians, who are these guys?
I have the MG brochure with a bunch more pics of Carlsbad in it !
One’s got to be Ty Page. It was always Ty Page. And, I don’t know, Bruce Logan? And of course we couldn’t get enough of that move back in the day–no one could ollie yet. I cleared the front fender of my mom’s ’76 Pinto high-jumping off my Logan Earth Ski, and it’s been all downhill from there.
i remember that ad!!!
