Skate Ball scoreboard

This is a photo of the plexiglass cover of the Skate Ball ramp that resided at the Olympic Skateboard Arena in Crystal Lake, Illinois before it met it’s demise at the Rainbo Skatepark in Chicago, Illinois. David Dude was somehow able to rescue this at some point in time, even though he was a Dallas local that skated with the likes of Jeff Phillips, Craig Johnson, Dan Wilkes, Allen Guimond and Art & Steve Godoy. This looks awesome. Don’t forget to enlarge-o-rama.

  1. I remember the fiberglass Skate Ball ramps from back in the day. Indy Skateboard Park in Eagledale shopping center, Indianapolis had some. I even rode the ramps at Rainbow in Chicago.

    1. Man! I thought I was the only one who remember this thing! I skated on them @ Rainbo in Chicago! I remember it had some Funtown (Chicago amusement park) stickers on it! I like these things.. The game part didnt work when I went, but it was a great ramp. My fav ortie was the Firestone though! I hated that pool they had though! lol

      1. Kemet, I went to Rainbow a few times. I agree that bowl was weird.

  2. Randy, you gotta get MC or somebody going on making T-shirts

    1. The thought crossed my mind actually.

More inf on this please. What the hell was Skate Ball? Like Rollerball on skateboards? Are those holes in the ramp that you were supposed to put balls into?

I’m just picking the latest post to spill ‘my two cents’ here:
It’s nine-eleven today and watching the ceremonies on tv,my dirty rotten skate mind makes me wonder when the first guy comes along to skate those memorial banks in Pennsylvania.Seriously no attempt at humor at all intended on this sad day.

We remember the Skate Ball. We were the Hell’s Gazelles and we ruled Crystal Lake, Rainbo, and the skateboard shop in Des Plaines. We were there opening night at the Rainbo when Jay Adams of Team Hobie sliced his hand open doing something totally gnarly. Later, we had an intense jam session with Team Hobie at the indoor half pipes in Des Plaines. Lloyd and his fat friend, who also sliced his hand open, thanks for the memories. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that Chicago boys aren’t radical. Hell’s Gazelles can never die.
