eBay Watch: April 2010

Well, despite what I said last month, I was able to pull together a full and complete BayWatch for April 2010. It was a tough month though. I’m assuming lots of people owed on their taxes in April because almost all of the big-ticket decks available went unsold. Only a few decks went for over a thousand. Actually, I don’t think I’ve seen so many decks go unsold with no bids in a single month before. Lots of decks were terribly overvalued with ludicrous starting bids, so there was no action on those. It did make for an interesting month though because I had to dig deeper than usual, and I unearthed some stuff that normally might not have made it in. Hopefully you’ll enjoy looking at what I found. And not to worry, from what I’ve seen so far May looks to be a return to normalcy with lots of interesting decks going off for normal prices. I’m excited about some of the stuff in May already.

jeez. i was trying to be nice! Gesmer is one of the weirdest skaters EVER! LOL! He is like a ballerina on a freestyle board! 🙂

        1. But who else can slalom pump a two-footed nose wheelie?

        2. I was just saying, “Mezmer – Gesmer” That’s all. Rockford Uber Alles!

Thanks for featuring the Surf Bird. I just picked up one of those at the thrift store for $5.99. It’s in great shape. They really hacked them out. None of the edges are close to uniform. It looks like drunk grampa carved it in five minutes and spilled a little paint on the rail.

    Kia ora Neil,
    Cher for the watch!

  10. Hi Neil –
Great laudable comments as usual –
    –> HELP: what difference do you make between a pro-model and a team-model ?

    1. Talentlessquitter on May 20, 2010 - Reply

I think you asked this before?
Pro model has the skater’s name on it and team model usually says ‘team’ and is not for one certain skater, duh!

      1. Great explanation !
I will write “Me, me & me” on my desks to improve their value, then.

  11. $199 for the Logan? I remember when NOS models were plentiful on ebay. I got mine for around $50.

  12. To stay tuned to park classics, check my last entry:

Yeah your right about the Metallica Zorlac deck being from 1991. It features in a Skateboard magazine.

  15. I’m thinking of selling my Lonnie Toft 8-Wheeler…It’s a little beat up but it’s all original from 1978. ACS 430 trucks and green Kryptonics….even the stickers are original.

I’ve owned this board for 32 years, so I hate to part with it but I suspect it could pull a hefty sum. Any suggestions as to what I should put as a reserve?

    1. talentlessquitter on June 19, 2010 - Reply

      32 years?….Don’t sell it man;you’ll regret it.

      1. Yeah, what are you going to dust if it goes away?

        1. You guys are right. What was I thinking?…I guess after looking through this site and seeing the astronomical amounts of money people pay for vintage classics I started thinking about how that old board might pay for a Jamaican vacation, or even the down payment on a sailboat.

I suppose I’ll just have to pass the old beast along to my daughter in my will, as a family heirloom.

  16. I love your skateboard review of ebay.

  17. “The Monster”
Hey I just wanted to update some of your info on the super rare “The Monster” Skateboard by Union Hardware, Torrington Conn. USA
From one of my examples the wheels are not black clay, but actually a hard black plastic wheel molded over the standard Union steel wheel, for a very little bit of extra ride comfort!
The same as the example you displayed – Green Frankenstein Monster with white face.
There are also other versions of the same board with black plastic wheels again, but with yellow half ball wheel dust caps instead of the standard flat yellow metal painted bolt-on disc. These were also used on Union 1959? Rollerskates, for which I saw a Union advert for sale on Ebay for the “Gold Key club” skates, with the half ball dust cover. Also I have versions with standard steel wheels & yellow metal dust covers, maybe left overs from rollerskate production, to complete a short run of “Monster boards” I assume?

    Anyhoo I love them all!!
I would love to hear from anyone who has a Monster board, that can tell me anything more about this fun part of my board collection.
    Andy
