I’m Sorry in Florida

I caught this commercial last night. I was making a note to look for it back at home, but it turned out to be a Florida-only thing. The cause is Tobacco Free Florida. Hey, I’m on your side, but this sad sack staring at me almost makes me want to take up smoking. Florida locals, where is this park? I guess that’s naive of me, this probably wasn’t even shot in Florida. Or maybe it was, you know they have a Universal Studios theme park in Orlando…

  1. What, you think we read your little blog down here?

  2. Anyway, that is the new paid-to-skate park in Sarasota, where they pay you to skate, but you have to wear a helmet for safety yet have to leave it unbuckled for “q” points. If you’re gonna be on the opposite (east) side Thursday before dark, though, comment to that effect, and you’ll be taken seriously enough.

  3. There are two parks in Sarasota now? Cause that’s where I’m at.

  4. actually that is the Orlando skate park. I live very close to it…

    (SDG design/RCMC build)

pay to play, the Fla way

welcome to Florida randy… hit me up if you need anything…

    Tito

  5. team pain parcs rule , you gotta hit dunedin and or
new smyrna. sarasota to many kids. the pool is really gnar you gotta be pro to ride that shallow

  6. go to Englewood sk8prk (oyster creek regional park) its about 45 min south… sick bowls and ditch type street. I think they might have just made it free recently, so let me know…
then just north of St Pete and Clearwater there is Dunedin, that has a sick pool. a “real” pool with stairs, and an extra pocket with a looser radi in the shallow and it faces the deep end. That is pay to play but its worth the pool…IMO…

then in a town called Zepherhills there is the Ghetto bowl compound, indoor park with a wide selection of bowls…

Skate park of Tampa near Ybor has an amazing street, i bet you’ll love that….
they do have a redbull Vert ramp that we added 3″ of additional vert and 5×12 skate-light pro, so its nice, they also have a bowl, basic kidney, but fun as fuck…

  7. In Florida also for about a week. Rip my grandpa 1919-2010! WW2 vet hero bomber pilot & flight trainer, he worked on the railroad , & in printing back when it was old school. & even saw electricity get turned on for the first time in his town.
but Im gonna do some skateboardin too so hit me up Randy or anyone else. Prob go to st.Pete hang out with Brad Again sometime from marginal way who moved there. I was there for new years.
Sarasota looks fun but not if the scene is wack, do they still have skate guards on duty? Helmet laws suck. U can ride a motercycle without a helmet in Florida but have to have one in a Skatepark? Ridiculous
email me & let me know where the private compound in the sticks is. I would imagine up by you Tim J. I might make the treck up north after the fam stuff.
Hopefully I get some sun this time visiting. Dec& Jan was cold for fl.
    New smyrna looks kill etc.
Thanks for the info Tito I hit up the outdoor Orlando last trip & vans for nostaliga.
My ride free card does not seem to work well down here. Oh well. I know Kona, stone edge & Tampa are down.
    maby the Bro bowl!!

  8. Alas, there is not really a park in Sarasota where they pay you to skate so long as you leave your helmet unbuckled for the camera… so far as I know. (You’ll have to settle for a tour of the store where PeeWee Herman molested himself.)

JAymeer,as a dutch guy I would like to truly thank your grandpa for fighting in WWII.Skate on,man.

  10. That’s the Orlando skatepark. The APA operates the park and hustles up extra money renting to film crews like these. The money goes back to the City and helps fund the maintenance of the park and the new street elements they add each year.

  11. thanks Dutch Guy, my grandpa taught hundreds of our guys to fly before he went on to be a Marine B25 captain/pilot & a hell of a saxaphone player, piano, claranet etc. , music
    note Instrument translator.
Funny enough I’m 50% pure blood Austrian, & Mallorcan with some Irish on the side.
I think my nom de plume Jay(“Meer”) is Dutch. & Nom de plume is French but the term evolved in Britian. My real Last name is Austrian/German, but that is a story for another day. . My birthday is Aug 29th which is GG Allen & Michael Jacksons birthdays also, & my middle name is August.. What does all this mean. That I am a diverse multitalented person With a rich history that is punk but also loves the world & all people & races very much. & has done a lot of geneology & research & has a middle name that is a month. Lol
I would like to thank everyone that sacrificed to stop the madness of & in WWII. Our world might not exisit or could be a very scary place.
On another note my grandpa Canova & me for that matter are direct descendents of one of the founders of Saint Augustine Florida (which is the oldest settlement in America, before Jamestown), & originally came to Dr.Turnbills I’ll fated colony of New Symnra with Greeks, English & others over 500 out of 1000 died, after which they marched to gain freedom in St. Augustine, There are 2 houses there that are now part of a museum one he lived in & one he built for one of his sons. They are some of the oldest still around in America.
& before mullets were a haircut in Florida they were/are a fish if ya didn’t know. There is a
book about some of that called “Mullet on the beach” lol

Gramps trained hundreds of pilots out of Pensacola, FL for WWII. Before he went on to fly a B25 with a well known squadren.

Thanks Jaymeer, you sound like a proud guy. It’s good that you did some research;everyone should know where they are coming/descending from.
Sounds like americans are true freedom fighters.Your name (Meer) sounds dutch but it also means ‘sea’ in german. And August?Ok,but I learned that a lot of girls’ names are days, months or seasons. And SA sounds like an old town yes.The town I live in has city rights for over 750 years, but no skate pools,or a good scene,or good tarmac.Just wear the helmet, man.
And by now Kilwag wants us to ‘get a room’!

  14. That’s funny. Kilwag is good people & a good friend, no matter what all the media haters say. Lol. I think he will understand my rants. & Endless long blogs. So thanks in advance Kilwag. & thanks for the support skateboarders are a worldwide family!!
