13th Street Skateboarding

Bowled in Missouri

I don’t think I’ve ever seen this approach to building a bowl. It seem like one where somebody would suggest it and then more experienced heads would intervene and say something like “Sure, it’s possible, but not really advisable.” In any case, these shots come to us from 13th Street Skateboarding, a modest web site without pretension that is dedicated to covering skateboarding in Missouri. This same park has age restrictions, meaning if you are over 17 you can only skate at certain times. Ridiculous, but not unheard of in Missouri. The St Charles County skatepark near St Louis Missouri also has such restrictions, although I’ve heard they have loosened somewhat. I love the Midwest. That’s why I moved to Oregon! But for all my fallen brothers who were left behind, check out 13 Street.

that’s wild… It couldn’t have been that hard to just raise that sucker up onto a 2×4 flat bottom… probably for the cost of that metal

I have done something similar before. I built a half-pipe with no 2×4 flatbottom support. I just layered it as normal and ended up with 2 layers of ply and 1 layer of masonite supported only by the cement floor. It made the flatbottom not feel as spongy as a normally framed out flatbottom tends to feel. But the metal strips at teh bottom of a ramp is never the best solution.

This is a TERRIBLE idea, round smooth corners that become angular metal at the bottom where speed and G forces are highest…sad.

  4. Worst of both worlds.

  5. That park was designed & built by bike guys. Skaters seem to be in the way at best. They do have a kickass 3ft mini with a spine at the entrance but the rest of the park is not very skate friendly.

I think they even have bike guys judge the skate contests. They used to anyway. Went to one and NEVER AGAIN!!!!
