Shaun White American Express commercial

Shaun White for American Express

What, no Don’t shred home without it? Err, yeah. Here’s an American Express commercial featuring Shaun White, who needs his credit card to allow him to fly from California to Utah, Canada, Japan and Norway at the drop of a hat. I thought that was what his sponsors were for? Apparently, American Express is trying to tap the demographic for spoiled rich teenagers. Is it just me, or is post-puberty Shaun White starting to look like Howard Stern with red hair? Oh yeah, the gimmick in this commercial is the old skateboarding used as transportation indoors – look at me, I’m radical! Extra points (and $, I’m sure) to Shaun for managing to get a Volcom shirt in the shot as well. Check out the commercial after the jump.

Yeah what about global warming? He is helping to destroy the earth just so he can make some more money. The guy is no good I tell ya…
I saw that dink in a skate competion not that long ago.I think he fell and hurt his wittle head. It was a good one. He thinks he’s some kind of rock star.I saw him another time talking about how he can’t stand losing in anything and he stands there posing for the camera with his aviator sunglasses and rock star wannabe hair. At first I thought it was a joke like maybe Carrot Top was at the event and was going to do his comedy. Nope it was Shaun “the troll” White alright. I could go on and on about this sawed off runt of an assclown but it’s just too easy.

    you fucking whiners

That reminds me: all that jetting around to different ski areas is contributing to global warming!!!

  • i love that the people in this world can take a simple commercial, and judge a person on it. he’s a sell-out, he’s a cop-out, yadda, yadda, yadda. you don’t have to like shaun white, or whoever. if they have bad ass skills, they’re still going to win. enjoy the sport with reading so much into the outside detail & marketing. all & all, if you don’t like whats happening on your t.v, shut the damn thing off you fucking whiners

I just think this whole narcissistic mentality is what is wrong with just about everything these days. Me me me…White may have worked hard, but he’s giving kids the idea that they are entitled to things without doing the work. Credit cards are just a trap. The interest rates are way out of line. All it is, is legal loan sharking period. It’s just more negative energy out there that everyone can do without. He doesn’t care because he is making a boat load of money. He could still make a lot of money without being such a whore.

What, more concave? BFD. Trucks and bearings are the same. There may have been some small improvement in wheel urethane but that’s it. Corporate involvement by the T-shirt and sneaker companies has contributed nothing, nada, zilch, to skating.

  • nweyesk8

Are you kidding, boards have evolved alot since i started riding in 82′.

  • enemy combatant

Skate technology hasn’t advanced one bit since 1980 so all this corporate sponsorship doesn’t mean dick.

  • you haters are fucked. Shaun’s amazing. He’s an EXTREMLY talented athelte, he’s using all his oppertunites and there’s nothing wrong with that. There are spoiled teenagers out there, but unlike them, shaun actually WORKS! You guys were still doin squak shit at his age while he won the olypics. Sure he isn’t the best looking guy around but who gives a fuck? oh yeah-the shallow fucks who don’t have anything else to pin on him besides that. Kudos to 4404veiw!!

I second that! Bunch of money grubbing maggots.

    F.U. American Express

    Jeez,what a worm…

  • Visa booya

I would like to know How many points did he use to travel to all those destinations, and how much would you have to spend to earn that many points?

  • Shevonne

Who is “Adam” in this commercial??

  • e.f. hutton

Yeah,I think it comes right after deer hunting season.

  • Shaun White was featured on AOL Sports last week, talking about how he’s getting in gear for skateboarding SEASON.

  • e.f. hutton

I’m just a spectator. Why would I need a sponsor?

  • maybe everyone should stop hating bc they’re not good enough to get a big sponsor.

  • e.f. hutton

Shaun White is a friggin’ dork. Screw him and the credit card he flew to Norway with. He should stay there.
I hope that ugly little sponge is soaking it all in because that gravy train ain’t gonna run forever.

  • its 10 A.M. Automatic by the black keys

  • Hullywood

do you know the song title by any chance?

  • its the black keys

  • what’s the song in that commercial?

  • skateboard $300, knee surgery $3000, petrol to the skatepark $20, the feeling of anger you get when a bmxer cuts you off and nearly impales you… priceless.

  • All we need is a business plan and enough partners to raise $1.5 million to start a $6 million dollar bank. All the skaters would switch over to us right? ATMs, credit cards, private bowl loans…

  • A

I am confused by that comment. But I’m all for taking people’s money if they want to give it away.

  • If we had a skater-owned bank there would be an outcry about how these big non-skate companies were trying to muscle in on the skater market. Maybe we should turn S+A into a bank like PayPal.

  • CREDIT CARD DEBT, we LOVE it!

FUCK ALL BANKS and the ways they try to be cool.

I need to travel where i want when i want,

    thats why I wear shoes.

  • 4404view

I think the spot is well done. Tony Hawk has opened the doors for corporate marketing for skate, and Shaun’s just grabbing as much cash as he can. Yea- there are blantant plugs for his sponsors: Volcom, Oakley, HP, Motorola…but the fact is the kid is taking advantage of his youth, his marketabliity, and to a certain degree is newly acquired fame. Good for shaun I say…And yea thats what sponsorship is all about. EXPOSURE.

As I recall Jake Burton and Laird Hamiliton are apart of this AMEX campaign…and those guys are legends in their respective sports.

  • Ah corporate marketing, skateboardings most f-d partner in crime.

  • fucking shoot me now.
