This post was originally static HTML. It has been backdated and inserted in the blog because it was too small to pretend it was an actual feature. And yes, this does hurt my OCD! Can you believe I used to have to hand code this? I integrated the blog into this site in July of 2006.

Arizona
Arizona is a worthy destination for so many reasons. It’s a tourist trap with a wild variety of scenery, weather, history and skateparks. With the new skateboarding “boom” skate parks have been built all over the state, from small towns like Sedona and Flagstaff to sprawling ovens like Glendale and Tempe.

Concrete Disciples lists 42 skate parks in all of Arizona. The early parks like The Wedge and Desert West are a far cry from the smooth, flowing trannies of Peoria, Glendale and the brand new Tempe parks. Site Design Group has found a nice middle ground between terrifying hugeness and smooth speed. You can find mellow bowls with endless lines (Glendale), kidney bowls with pool coping or no pool coping (Peoria and Paradise Valley respectively), snake runs and a little bit of street (there‚s plenty of street out in the streets). SDG builds parks for everyone. If you like to skate something smaller, or something with some vert and pool coping, you can find it in Arizona.

The parks get a little weird when you get to small towns like Casa Grande and Flagstaff. Casa Grande seems like an old Site Design experiment that they don‚t claim as one of their own anymore. However, if you are driving between Tuscon and Phoenix, stop in Casa Grande. It‚s a small resort/trailer park town. The park is basically a snake run with a spine in the middle. In Flagstaff there is Foxglenn Skatepark and Bushmaster Skatepark, both built by Site Design. Foxglenn is where to spend you time. With big banks and big coping it‚s almost like a ditch with parking blocks. Bushmaster is a very early SDG park with rough concrete, kinked trannies and metal grates sticking out in the bowl. If you are stuck in Flagstaff for more than a day then go check it out. The snake run can be fun.

Phoenix is the place to be, especially in November or December. There are at least 10 parks within a one hour drive from each other. Peoria, Glendale, Paradise Valley, Tempe, Pecos, Gilbert, Chandler and more are all within a half hour from each other and they don’t let bikes in. The weather is great and the parks have endless lines. The population is growing, sprawl is taking over and water is wasting all over Phoenix. Someday soon the spoiled rich people will have to drain their pools.
