Ronald Chapman ( Chappman, not Chatman ) asked if this advert for Pipp products as featured in the Vintage Skateboard Magazine Ad gallery was for sale. I told him I wasn’t going to take apart an old skate magazine to sell an ad individually. I wish everyone felt that way actually. I was curious though, the advert wasn’t that interesting so I asked him why he wanted it. The simple answer is that he has the two products featured in the advert, and they are definitely more interesting in real life.
Here’s the original ad, featured in a 1978 issue of Skateboard Industry News.
Here’s a couple of closeups of the two skateboards in the ad. To be honest, I didn’t pay much attention to this ad when I first posted it and I completely failed to notice the wooden deck had an acrylic inlay. You can’t really tell from the picture because it just looks like a sticker or a screened design element.

Here’s a picture from Ronald Chappman. The reality of these boards is much more interesting. I’m curious how they got the acrylic inlay in the Crystalyte model to adhere to the wood. Meanwhile, the Strobe models were airbrushed by hand.
I’ve never seen another ad for Pipp or any other skateboards. Let me know if you come across any.
