A couple of weeks ago I flew to Colorado Springs for a wedding. There are plenty of proper spots to skate in Colorado, none of which I saw during my short allotted time there. I did see an interesting banked curb setup in Colorado Springs, and street skating in Manitou Springs.
This guys name is Try, and he graciously allowed me to photograph him testing his skills off this ledge. He was in no apparent hurry, so this spot in Manitou Springs must not be a bust.

We ended up driving by the Manitou Springs skatepark, so I made the whole family stop while I checked it out. The red cement stands out a bit but doesn’t quite make up for the recessed undersized “noping.” Still, it was fun to roll around a little. The one local there was kind enough to let me try his deck, probably thinking I was going eat shit. I’m not 100% certain but I think the last photo is a mosaic of a dog on a skateboard.

I forgot to turn off the wide angle lens setting, otherwise you would see that this board I borrowed from a local named Kent is egg shaped. It’s a local brand called Ritual. This photo makes it look like a toy skateboard but it was quite wide and egg-shaped.

Colorado Springs definitely has skateparks, 2 or 3 I think, but all I had time to see saw was this banked curb in the middle of one of the main drags. This is a spot that would have kept me entertained for hours in 80’s. I probably would have gotten hit by a car, had a board ran over, or at the very least been honked at. I can evasion many a late nights there, I certainly spent time like that at less engaging spots.

We weren’t sure what the cultural makeup of Colorado Springs would be. We had heard it was pretty conservative, but there was a very healthy turnout for the No Kings protest. I was at a brunch wedding and by the time we got back the hotel the event had been going on for 4 hours or so and was beginning to wind down. Somehow the vibe was extremely positive and joyous almost. There were a couple MAGA hats and t-shirts but they were non-confrontational. That’s not an insanely long stretch limo, I just picked the wrong time to do a panorama. Most of the crowd is across the street.

II didn’t meet any locals in Colorado Springs, but two out the two locals I met in Manitou Springs were friendly. Well done Manitou Springs.
