Thrasher Hacked

Thrasher Hacked

Thrasher Magazine was hacked this weekend by a group or individual called Indonesian Hacker, who first apologized and then really gave those right wing imperialistic fascist heathens at Thrasher a piece of his mind. Yeah, makes no sense to me either. Anyway, the site is back up. Antigravity Press got hacked last week. I’m going to back up Skate and Annoy tonight. – Thanks to Rayn Hass for the tip.

I often recommend PostreSQL to my clients. If you have been in the business for 14 years and are under the delusion that mySQL is any good then you truly are an extremely ignorant end-user.

  • congratulations! you spent 10 minutes on google searching for ‘mysql sucks’ and now you are a master of relational databases! What took me 14 years you accomplished in mere minutes now go tell the the 90% of ISPs that dont run or support post to get it installed ASAP!

PostgreSQL is an excellent open source RDBMS.

    Oooh! Zinger!

    Err… Postgres?

  • enemy combatant

MySQL is a relational embarrassment. Not only doesn’t it support Codd’s twelve rules, the morons who flog it use to actively argue that foreign key constraints were a bad thing! Bwahahahahaha!

The same morons also still argue that ACID transactions are un-necessary (your bank account better hope that’s not true) and also don’t have a fukcin’ clue what a null is (or is not.)

The clowns who run the project have bought some third-party add-ons to support these and other numerous deficiencies but they have been implemented in the typically incompetent and half-assed mySQL manner.

It’s always been a toy database for un-schooled amateurs who don’t know how to think logically. eg. End-users of the sort who style themselves as “webmasters.”

I’m looking forward to the first week we can get by without any “you are a moron, loser, dickhead, kook…..” comments. I don’t think it will happen.

end users = least common denominator you schmuck.

Kilwag/Randy you sure got a cream-of-the-crop group that spams in here.

Please elaborate on the fallacies of mySQL since you seem to know everything, and posting the first 3 google entries for ‘mysql sucks’ doesn’t count hombre.

Dang, who is this Randy person everyone keeps calling out?

  • mc – get ahold of me. you can use mysql admin to upload it – not as hard as you think

  • I was several versions behind in WordPress, so I got a nice list of pornographic website URLs hidden on my front page and a period in the footer made into a link to a mortgage site. I think my database was fucked a while ago because all my backups were bad. Oh well, starting over has it’s attractions.

I have a Jan 2006 SQL dump I could restore from but I don’t want to wipe out my daughter’s site that uses the same database. I wish I knew more.

  • Randy – if you have admin access to any web-based software or programs you are a ‘webmaster’. I know it is a dated term, but nevertheless still applicable. It is your ISP/hosts job to keep their backend software (PHP/SQL/BBQ) up to date, and yours to keep your frontend software current as always.

Life experiences are best done the hard way – i’ve been hacked several times and learned just like that. Usually the hackers only change the frontpage but they do have access to all your other files and user information so make sure to change all your admin passwords ASAP, and advise your users to do the same.

I’m in the middle. Open source software has allowed a great many things, but if you truly care about your efforts and are installing software on your web host you need to investigate it, or take it with a grain of salt if you get hacked.

The Problem with installing every upgrade in an open source platform is that sometimes an “update” will also remove functionality, as is the case with WordPress. It sucks if you like what you have.

If you are going to play on the Internet then go for it. I think it’s a little elitist to insist that every blog author should also have to be webmaster as well. the end user/webmaster line is blurred a little, so now the casual user can tinker and publish when before they had to buy into expensive software or services. I think the web has benefited from that.

  • when are webmasters considered “end-users” by the way?

  • no, my comment doesn’t belong on slashdot, moron. If you are going to play on the internet then do your homework.

  • enemy combatant

People use “insta-kits” precisely so that they DON”T have to know what they’re doing. Your comment belongs on /. where bashing end-users is the national past-time.

  • that is why it is important when using all your newfangled CMS insta-website kits to KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Keep all your versions up-to-date, the second you get a couple builds behind you will be put on lists of ‘sites to hack’ and get hit up by script-kiddies from South America.
