Helicopter cams are going to be the defining videography technique of skate videos in this decade, just like fisheye adapters were in.. when was that? The 90’s? Anyway. Rich over at EPM is developing an RC helicopter platform for the masses called Hooperfly. Rich shot some test footage at Pier Park yesterday, and well, here it is.

Rich, this was a great look into the possibilities with your HooperFly copter. It was fun to watch you working the controls and making sure that we didn’t get nailed within your flight path. Upward and onward!

RC helicopter is a thing of the past. Drones are where its at.

Watch “Pretty Sweet” intro for best use of this technology.

Here’s a short video related to what it took to shoot that opening sequence of “Pretty Sweet”. Of note, two people operating the copter with a camera gimbal via FPV, first person view, gear:

It takes time to develop those flying and filming skills, especially using FPV. Rad!
Pretty Sweet and just the beginning of skate video sequences captured by “flying” cameras.

Interesting. Besides bombing Pakistan and spying on speeding cars, I really didn’t think there would be many other other applications of drones. Though commercialized UAV’s are probably going to be the defining videography technique of every outdoor sport. If people can figure out how keep the lens trained on its target.

Rich,
Can you make a turbo model that will pick fat ol’ guys out of the bowls?
Rich
For sure. We could test it in the Montana proving grounds this summer.

That looks pretty impressive. I’m sure that with some software stabilization it will provide some sweet shots that wouldn’t be possible without more expensive equipment.

Nice stuff! Can it be used with every camcorder or is there a max. weight/size for the platform? And what about the price?
Rich
If you’re interested, send me some email at the following address and I can answer your questions.

It will carry 3 12oz beers no problem.

Great footage Rich.
Is this model equipped with the R.L.S.E 5000 a.k.a. Razor Lazer Scooter Eliminator?
Rich
It’s an upgrade option along with a Corinthian leather case. 🙂

Inquieries in the DH/longboarding community.

None of that footage is even interesting… It’s shaky and poorly shot.
houseofneil
did you not read that it was a camera mounted on a RC helicopter? I think the footage is amazing considering it’s probably the first time it’s been used.
Kilwag
Hence the phrase “test footage,” sheesh.
