Maloof Money Cup Day One
Today is day one for the Maloof Money Cup in New York City. Last night was nuts, see yesterday’s post for details. I picked up an Eye-Fi card, which is a Wi-Fi enabled memory card for the camera, so hopefully I will be able to post pictures much closer to real time. Just a reminder that Fuel TV will be showing this event live from 2-4 PM so check it out if you can.
Today I am interviewing the following people:
Joe Maloof
Sean Malto
Dennis Busenitz
Jamie Tancowny
Ben Hatchell
Luis Tolentino
If there is anyone else anyone would like me to interview, let me know in the comments. Also if you have any specific questions you would like me too ask do the same.

1:50 PM Press room A/C broke, computer’s motherboard literally melted in the heat and left me without a computer for the rest of the day, sorry for the lack of updates. I am uploading the best of the best pictures from after that point. Sorry about that. They assured me the A/C will work all day today, running on a loaner laptop today.
1:35 Battery died on camera, went to switch and saw that it was lunch time for press. Pretzel bunned cheeseburgers anyone? ME
1:30 Heat Four
1:22 Heat Three
1:15 Heat Two
1:00 Showtime! Will upload pics between each heat.
11:30 Practice time
9:59 Tempers are running high, kids are hot and ready to get in
(Picture coming soon)
9:05 A group of 150 kids do a sneak attack and bum rush the fence… security and police ‘escort’ them out. No pictures except of the aftermath. A ton of people in line
9:00 AM Got my Media Pass… stoked
Looks pretty action packed. Is there a higher vantage point to get a look at the layout?
How much are they charging to get in?
Arnie, its free but you have to have gotten a (free) ticket from a local skate shop to see the course. I will try to get into a higher spot for a picture.
Watching the contest on Fuel, it course looked kind of cramped in the design-floorplan view, but in use it looks fine.
I think its going to be crazy when a bunch of kids who don’t know what they are doing are there but with a bunch of pros its great.
I think he must have choked on that pretzel sandwhich
Datza lottah pitsjas…
This is the hottest, most humid weather we’ve had since last summer, like pea soup out there. And speaking of food, is that ketchup from the pretzel burger on your pant leg.
That is (very) old dried blood that never came out. Sorry about the lack of updates after 1:30, see the 1:50 update above to see why.
Was the police cool?
Was there any crowd control from the event organization?I’d like to know.
Police were really cool. I am surprised, I thought they would at the very least take their tickets but they let the kids back in line with no issue. Only one person was kicked out that I saw at all yesterday and that was because he kept trying to skate the course during the event.
OK!Nice to hear that.
What a finale, and the way it just started downpouring the second it ended, epic. Looks like the heat and humidity focused directly on the contest, because within a couple hours of the end, the winds shifted bringing in cool, dry air. Seems like mother nature dug the ending too.
you’d think with all the money involved they could afford a logo that doesn’t look like a 13 year old girl’s tshirt design from hot topic.
