Oblique ideas about skateboarding

Once again, these spin offs have become so numerous that I hardly even consider them skateboard related. It’s like they are riffing on something completely different. Michele Camerlengo cops to borrowing inspiration from snakeboards of all things. It’s only a matter of time before the Obliqo becomes two separate foot items without the “board” connecting them in the middle.

These Caster boards are a real plague over here, especially with the under-12 kids. The hype is official now, since the rage made the newspapers. How can we get kids back on skateboards?

  3. At this point, the wooden popsicle with aluminum trucks and urethane wheels is pretty much the proven vehicle. And I’m not sure how it’ll be made much more functional.

It’s good to see people trying though. From a design perspective, I think those are cool. Creative thought should never be stifled, and it’s interesting to see what people come up with.

Unfortunately, they’re pretty useless. Maybe good for rolling around, but ultimately useless for actual skatebording.

  9. “Inefficient” this is not. Ineffectual, hell yes. Anything that involves the rider’s arms ticcing while the device tacs (instead of ticcing while ticcing and taccing while taccing) should be smashed out of existence like a whining malarial bug.
