Skate and Annoy: Daily

eBay Watch: January 2010

It’s funny how this column comes together. It’s different every month. Last month for example it took me about 3 weeks to put it all together. I’d do one section, wait to get motivated for a week, force myself to do a few decks, then come back a few days later and do some more. But some months like this one everything just flows and I crank out the whole thing in a couple of days. It feels much better this way; you get in a flow and just ride it out. Hours go by without noticing it. It’s good. Hopefully you guys enjoy them all, but this one feels extra special somehow. Of course the decks that get featured have a lot to do with that too. It’s tough to find new stuff to say when you’re featuring a Hawk birdclaw for the 50th time. So you might notice that there are no Hawks, no Natas and no McGill decks featured this month. That was half by chance and half by choice. I hope you don’t miss them!

  • Hey Houseofneil! Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy being led down memory lane every time I see a new edition of the ‘watch… Growing up in the middle of nowhere in Denmark, we could usually only dream of the cool boards we could see in the magazines… If we could get any magazines! Sorry for the longwinded rant, only wanted to say: Keep up the good work!

both those late SIms and Brand X done by Bernie Tostenson I believe. SO there is some synergy there.

  • A

That Sims New Wave model looks like it came from Brand X

Thanks for the read Neil! Looking forward to the February bootleg issue….or not!

I had that Sean Sheffey deck, I painted over the graphics with a black women wearing a hat with fruit on. (Don’t ask I was 12 at the time) But it was a nice deck.
The Blockhead deck with the kick doing a boardslide was a great graphic, and reminds me of how we used to wind adults up when we were kids.

Never have seen That Deathbox van der Eng before.I can only go from this picture here. The big disk cheese (that looks like the Cab. bearing graphic) says ‘Goudse kaas’;cheese from Gouda,a dutch town. And I’m sure that is beer pouring out of the glass. The huge wooden shoe-boat (they do exist) must say ‘Flying dutchman’.

I have the Public deck in natural wood background.Makes the puddle of blood come out nicely!Public decks also have great matching top graphics.

  • ^^^Sorry forgot to put the width on that 101 it’s 7 1/2

  • I picked up that 101 devil girl deck and the length is 30 1/2.

  • The reason why I love eBay Watch so much is not only the cool views back in time, but also for the fuel to geek-out and hunt down skate history minutiae on the internet! Did you know that “Ken Park” is a movie? No joke, the film begins with the public suicide of Ken Park at a local skateboarding park. Weird, eh? I also found out that a popular Ken Park nickname was “Krap Nek”! But seriously, I think he rode for Madrid before Town & Country. T&C was distributed by Vision, so a ride on T&C probably led to a contract with Vision.

  • Is that Justin Lovely the first “pro” that was on Skull? Always thought it was the “Teapot” model, which I remember seeing earlier than this one…and which also had the earlier Skull concave, not the Tub Tech…
