Just when you think you’ve seen every iteration of skate furniture, along comes something new. Gil Le Bon De Lapointe, the man behind the Skate Study House, produced this chair made from the scraps of the skateboard manufacturing process. It can be yours for $3500, according to the L.A. Times, but they don’t tell you where you can pick it up.

hey JPK, when the ply is turned on it’s edge like that the cross laminates afford very little strength on the vertical plane. The hole is 20x the size of the thickest piece of the top so even if the hole is 9″ it’s less than 1/2″ thick. I notice it’s also so roughly hewn and asymmetrical they’ve used some sort timber colored bog/filler to try and make amends.
All that glue and filler would likely make for a toxic fire like a similarly artistic upstanding plup bottle …which would probably make a safer more comfortable chair.

Awesome!!! One function of art is to communicate something. I think what this piece says is this: “You are a shallow dipshit with too much money, and I’ll prove it by tricking you out of $3500”

Looks sturdy enough. It’s probably at least an inch thick at the thinnest point, so it’s like an inch thick (at least) sheet of plywood, only stronger becasue it’s denser and made from better wood.

I’m wondering what sort of furniture it’s supposed to be, it doesn’t look strong enough to be a chair. Would ‘it’s art’ be a reasonable defense if it collapsed under somebody and they sued?

K, I agree. Why not? We’ve all seen on ebay decks turned into wall shelves, CD holders, clocks, coat racks, lounge chairs, backpacks, high heel shoes, and more I’m sure. It’s love of the skateboard.
I haven’t seen anyone try to create something unique with like a hockey stick or baseball bat, because organized sports sucks.
