Speaking of pixelated, it’s been a year and a half since we tackled bad skateboarding video games from the 8 bit days. It was called “Seven days of bad skateboarding video games” but apparently I abandoned the concept after only three ( 1 – 2 – 3) days. Metro Cross has the honor of winning the worst video game box cover in a PC World article.

It’s odd that the arcade game has nice promotional graphics as seen below, courtesy of Wikipedia. Near as I can tell form the graphics, you are either a tiny guy forced to run through a scaled down maze filled with menacing pop cans, or a regular size guy forced to hurdle giant soda cans.

From all the game play screens I’ve seen, there really isn’t much skateboarding present, so it’s curious that the desiners chose to focus on skateboarding for the home versions. Here are a few screen captures that actually do have little guy on a skateboard, again courtesy of Moby Games..

Of course, someone has video captures of the actual game play. Let me warn you, it’s riveting!
The game came out in 1985 originally, and was eventually ported to a bunch of other platforms. This gameplay is labeled as an arcade version and is much more advanced.

Estes' Ghost
I’ve been trying to find the perfect ‘sausage suit’ for such an event! Death race right?

I’d be “cross” too if I had to pose for that box cover.
